Allied Health Professions Australia

Allied Health Professions Australia AHPA is the national voice representing allied health professions in health, aged care, disability & more.

Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) is the recognised national voice for allied health professions, representing and advocating for the role of allied health professions in health, aged care, disability, education and all systems where allied health services have a role. Allied health professions provide crucial support for people experiencing disability, chronic illness and a wide range of

other health issues. Allied health professionals represent almost a third of the country’s health care workforce and deliver over 200 million health services annually. However, access to allied health services still lags behind medical care. Only by ensuring that allied health services are fully integrated into our health system, and accessible across the country, will we ensure that we are delivering world class support for every Australian. AHPA works to provide national leadership that shapes and supports the contribution made by allied health professionals to national health and wellbeing. As the peak national organisation for allied health professions, AHPA has an important strategic leadership role and is the body that the Federal Government and other national organisations turn to when they seek a collective view of allied health.

If you’re considering digital health connection, start with a simple question: What can your current system support?

Then ask your vendor:
❓ Is our software conformant?
❓ What integrations are available?
❓ What’s on your roadmap?

These conversations help clarify what’s possible and what’s next.

When a client says: “You can see that in my My Health Record.”

What will you say next?

If you’re not connected to My Health Record through clinical software, it still helps to understand what clients can see and access.

Clients can access their My Health Record through myGov or the 1800MEDICARE app.

Taking a few minutes to explore your own record can help you:
🚩 see what health information clients may have access to
🚩 understand how documents like pathology, imaging and discharge summaries appear
🚩 know how a client might share information from their record during a consultation

Understanding what clients see can help you guide the conversation and make better use of shared health information in care.

Many allied health professionals are exploring how to connect with national digital health systems like My Health Record, secure messaging and electronic prescribing.

What’s possible in practice often depends on your clinical software.

When systems are conformant, connection can be simpler, more consistent and easier to scale.

Start by checking if your system is conformant.
