We help African and multicultural families to build skills and confidence in parenting in Australia. ImpactGen is inspired by the African saying, "it takes a village to raise a child". We work with parents and service providers to ensure that everyone recognises their vital role in making a positive impact on our children and young people as they grow up. Parenting evolves from generation to gener

ation and thus, regardless of cultural background, parenting is very different today. Furthermore, the challenges that parents are facing today are very unique, particularly around technology and social media. However, one thing that doesn't change is that we observe and learn how to parent from our parents, relatives and others who inspire us with the way they go about parenting their own children. I was brought up in a village in Africa but I am now raising my children in Australia's largest city so I am well aware of the distinctive differences, when it comes raising children in a village and a Western city. I strongly believe that our childhood experiences, whether in relation to an environment we grew in and/or events (e.g. war) that occurred while we were growing up, inform the way we parent as adults.
