We think you knew this one already but just in case: FAKE!

To find out what your local council will and won't accept in your recycling bin (or green waste) and options for different materials such as textiles and e-waste, check your local waste and recycling guide online.

Common materials that vary across councils are greasy paper or cardboard and Tetra Paks. Can your council recycle these?

Something special is popping up at the Gardens these school holidays… and it’s got a very big nose!

Big Bandicoot Backyard is coming to Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne from 10–12 April, celebrating the gardens 20th birthday and one of our most fascinating native neighbours – the Southern Brown Bandicoot.

Rethink Recycling will be there with a hands-on activity for kids, where they can make their own Southern Bandicoot key chain mould using recycled plastic lids and see how everyday plastics can be transformed into something new.

The event also features a giant bandicoot sculpture, performances, creative activities and plenty of chances to learn about how we can protect wildlife living in our urban spaces.

Best of all – it’s free and perfect for curious kids and families.

If you’re heading along, come say hi to the Rethink team and get involved! Even take home a 'Bandi-cute' souvenir!

We wanted to share this opportunity with our community 👇

Variety Victoria is currently offering community grants for schools and not-for-profits to purchase equipment that supports children aged 0–17 who may be experiencing disability, chronic illness, disadvantage or geographic isolation.

Funding can go towards things like:
• Inclusive play equipment
• Sensory room items
• Learning resources and tools
• Assistive technology

It’s important to note that the grant is for equipment only (not programs, staffing or training), and applicants will need to clearly show how the item will benefit children and improve outcomes.

While Rethink Recycling programs aren’t eligible for this funding, many of the schools and organisations in our network are.

Learn more here: https://fundraise.variety.org.au/community-grants

It’s great to see more support being directed toward inclusive learning environments.

♻️ Remade. Reused. Reimagined.

What if yesterday’s plastic became today’s learning tool?

With Rethink Recycling machines, students don’t just learn about sustainability, they experience it and influence it in their own school community. Through hands-on STEAM learning, young innovators shred, redesign and remake materials while building real-world circular economy skills.

Ready to bring circular systems into your school? Our machines and tools are plug and play!
