The Australian Security Leaders Climate Group (ASLCG) is a non-partisan network of Australian security and policy professionals that is working to reframe the climate debate and make climate an immediate security priority in Australia. Led by former members of the Australian Defence Force and security practitioners, the Australian Security Leaders Climate Group (ASLCG) works to reframe the climate

debate to address the threat that accelerating climate change poses to Australia’s security. The group aims to make climate an immediate security priority in Australia by assessing the full level of current and oncoming risk and building resilience for local and global protection. ASLCG will do this by:

- Leading public debate and raising awareness of the security threat of climate change;

- Communicating and undertaking strategic research on this issue;

- Developing strategic and achievable policy recommendations that appropriately address climate-security threats; and

- Working with government and department officials to secure positive and actionable policy outcomes.

Oil wars drive energy and cost-of-living shocks — and climate change will make them worse.

Today the Australian Security Leaders Climate Group released an open letter warning that Australia’s dependence on imported oil is an economic and national security risk.

History shows conflicts often trigger global oil price shocks, which quickly flow through to higher costs for Australian households and businesses.

Australia must accelerate the shift to clean energy and electrified transport to reduce exposure to global energy shocks and strengthen our economic and national security.
