ENTERPRIZE - Melbourne's Tall Ship

Enterprize is a replica topsail schooner that offers traditional sailing experiences to the public. This page is monitored by a team of volunteer crew.

Enterprize is a replica of the tall ship that brought the first settlers from Launceston, Tasmania to begin what is now the city of Melbourne in 1835. The 27-metre topsail schooner is the only traditionally-rigged ship in Australian and New Zealand waters and is open to the public for a variety of sails along the coast of Victoria. Avast ye! Celebrate International Talk Like A Pirate Day in true swashbuckling fashion with Melbourne’s Tall Ship Enterprize.

Embark on one-hour sails in Hobson’s Bay aboard a replica tall ship and have a taste of 19th century style sailing, be it hauling on a line, helming the ship, or just feeling the wind in your hair. Piratical attire welcome!

For the sea dogs who are of a rum-drinking age (18+), we are also doing a special rum tasting evening presented by Killik Handcrafted Rum. Tickets strictly limited - book now to secure your spot! 🥃🏴‍☠️

To everyone who donated, shared, showed up, or supported our Winter Fundraiser in any way: thank you!

Every scrape, stitch, and coat of tar in these photos? That’s our fantastic volunteers giving their time and effort to keep Enterprize sailing.

And thanks to all of our donors (including some incredibly generous offline supporters), we’ll be able to keep that work going through winter.

There is still plenty more work to do, but our layup is well and truly underway thanks to your help!

Last few hours before EOFY hits!

We’re well and truly getting stuck in to our winter’s work, but we’re still pushing hard to hit our fundraising goal.

This layup we are working hard on:
🪡 Sailmaking and sail repairs
🛢️ Rig tarring and repairs
🔧 Completing crucial engineering work

We are grateful for all of our volunteers that give their time and effort throughout layup, but we rely on external support for the materials that make it all possible. (A huge thank you to those who have already donated!)

One week to go… and we’re only halfway there ⚓️

Our winter fundraiser is underway, and while we’ve made an incredible start at our new (old) home at Seaworks thanks to your support, we still have a long way to go.

We farewelled our sailing season last weekend, and crucial maintenance work is already underway to keep her seaworthy.

Right now, we’re sitting at 50% of our goal. This is where we need our extended crew to step in.

Join us on June 20-21 at Gem Pier, Williamstown, for our final sailing weekend before Enterprize heads into winter maintenance.

1 and 1.5 hour sails available, step aboard and be part of the story before we trade sailing for sail-making (just for a little while).

A huge thank you to Jotun Australia for helping keep Enterprize in her prime! ⚓️

During our recent slipping, Jotun generously supplied the antifoul that now protects our hull beneath the waterline, keeping us sleek and efficient, seaworthy, and ready for many more nautical miles ahead.

It’s support like this that helps us continue delivering unforgettable experiences on Port Phillip Bay.

Three weeks on the slip, and Enterprize is looking ship-shape once more 🛠️⚓️

From scraping and sanding to fresh antifoul below the waterline, plus essential engineering work on the drive train (our iron mainsail), it’s been a massive effort by our crew and volunteers.

But the work doesn’t stop here… As winter layup approaches and we prepare for our move to Williamstown, we’ve just launched our winter fundraiser to help cover maintenance, materials, and our new workshop setup.

If you’ve ever sailed with us, sung a shanty or dressed as a pirate aboard, or just love seeing Enterprize out on the bay, now’s your chance to be part of what keeps her going.

Our sails may soon be coming down for the winter break… but the real work is just beginning ⚓️

Earlier this year, Enterprize farewelled our long-time home at North Wharf and is preparing to settle into a second chapter at Seaworks, Williamstown. But before we can begin our winter layup maintenance period, there’s a long list of preparations including bringing our new workshop space to life, and we can’t do it without your help.

Layup is where the magic happens to keep our sailing seasons smooth: sail-making and repairs, tarring the rig, as well as crucial rigging, electrical, and engineering work.

Our crew are ready, but we need help from the wider community to fund this important work.

Big or small, every donation helps keep this living piece of history on the water for generations to come.
