One of the many jobs we get called to is "Assist Ambulance". So when the opportunity arises we take advantage of getting some training in with our amazing bunch of local Ambulance Officers.

It is with heavy hearts we learn of the passing of a much loved Life Member of Williamtown/Salt Ash Brigade, Group Officer Mr Leslie Bowden AFSM.

Les (as he was known) joined the Rural Fire Service in 1980 (Then the Bush Fire Service) in the midst of a bad fire season. The same year, after showing much dedication to his brigade, he was elected to Deputy Captain.

In 1988 he became a Group Captain of the Port Stephens area. A position he held (and still holds) until his retirement in 2021.

In 2006 after all his hard work, not only here but in the Cabonne Shire (Orange) he was awarded the AFSM Medal - Australian Fire Service Medal

Les was well know, hard working and respected by many and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his Family at this very sad time.

With todays Fire Danger Rating of HIGH, comes the first Day of the Fire Season.

Remember from today you MUST obtain a Fire Permit to be able to have a Pile Burn in your yard.

It is that time of the year again....

We are just 3 Days away from the official start of fire season.
The RFS has already been busy with (at the time of this post) 29 Advice levels fires burning across NSW

🔥 With the start of Fire Season, begins the legal requirement to get a Fire Permit, if your wish to burn a pile on your property. If you are unsure how to do this, we are more then happy to help you out. 🔥

Have you got your Fire Plan Ready??
By now everyones property's should be ready to withstand some level of fire and your families should be aware of what they need to do if a fire were to occur.

Last week we were invited to Medowie Public School, to give Stage 1 and Early Stage 1 students a chat about Fire Safety. The morning went really well, the children were very inquisitive, some even showing some really good knowledge already.
We hope they were all able to go home and discuss, home fire safety and evacuation drills with their parents.
It was a lovely surprise to receive some amazing cards from the children, showing their appreciation.
