Righto, time to resurrect an often maligned discipline of Sup......”The Downwinder”

We’ve got some Monty S/E’ers lining up over the next few days with Saturday looking particularly good. (20-30 kts)

If you’re an experienced DW paddler, here’s a great opportunity. (*Not suitable for novice/intermediate paddlers)
- Saturday 17/1/26

- Meet at Beaumaris LSC @ 6.30am

- Load boards and head to Patterson River/Launching Place.

- Paddle out at 7.30am & fang it back to Ricketts Pt for 12 kms of runners!

Requirements:

1/ Must be a current financial SV member

2/ leash & Pfd (we will be a couple of kms offshore)

3/ Hi Viz top

4/ Organise your paddle/car shuffle buddy. It is recommended that you team with someone who is a similar standard to keep within eyesight during the run & to avoid a lengthy wait at the end of the run.

5/ Be on time (if not early) we don’t wait for late comers!! (No mates on powder days rule applies!)

So get to it & prepare for a rare reverse DW’er across the Bay.

Our first “Official Social Race” for 2026 & weren’t we treated to some amazing conditions!

Despite being slap bang in the middle of Summer/School Holidays, 25 mad paddlers turned up for the Sup-X & NSP Board/Paddle Demo.

The course was 850 metres & included R & L hand turns as well as an inside transition which ensured everyone’s HR stayed high.

Different board divisions ensured everyone was catered for.

The race format was 45 minutes/how many laps in the allotted time.

The staggered start saw the Novice section launch first, followed by the Open section to minimise first turn mayhem!

It was amazing to see all paddlers giving it some stick, especially at the turns.
For many people, this was their first foray into racing & at the end there were only smiles, cheering and maximum encouragement!!

Post race saw everyone enjoying the warm water and light refreshing seabreeze and jumping into the NSP - Surf and Stand Up Paddle Boards demo. paddled all of the boards & provided awesome feedback. It was a unique opportunity for them to paddle both mid range & high end boards. One hit was the info the crew gained was the importance of paddle blade size & everyone who tried the NSP Vivace paddle came away impressed.

The post event Bbq allowed everyone to refuel, chill & reflect on a great morning on the water.

The first of many events for 2026, stay tuned for upcoming socials, specialised clinics, surf days & more. (Especially if you missed this & are now suffering an acute case of FOMO)

Results from yesterday read like this!
