We’ve posted a bit about Wildflower closing already, but just had to share this awesome pic we found from 2014. It’s founder Topher Boehm and wife Benny cooking BBQ outside of Batch, where Topher first start working.
We love how interwoven the Ale Trail community is, so we just had to ask Batch co-founder Andrew and Topher about it.
Andrew: “Topher helped us set up the brewery before it opened in 2013. He built most of the high tables at the brewery, among many other things! He then started brewing alongside (co-founder) Chris Sidwa and is attributed to the Elsie and West Coast original recipe development.
On the side, he used to make brisket for Saturday service. No doubt at the time, we either weren’t paying him or able to pay much, so he did this to help supplement cash flow as well as doing it for a bit of fun. I think it was more about smoking the meat than the cash to be honest. He was our first food truck!”
Topher: “Benny and I started doing smoked brisket sandwiches under the name Burnt Ends every other Saturday in 2014 outside before food trucks were common. We used the BBQ funds to live in Europe for a year and eventually travel and work at a bunch of different breweries over there. We came back and opened Wildflower in 2017.”
Wildflower’s open this Thursday to Sunday before closing its Marrickville doors for good (it’s moving rural). Sadly Burnt Ends BBQ won’t be appearing this weekend but you can bet it’s going to be a helluva party so come on down and join us...
