Several of us finished off the planting in the grassland buffer this morning. All the showers just missed us but it was cold. Finished early and headed off for morning tea. We need some less windy weather without rain so that we can get on with some spraying of weeds.

Terrific turnout for our "Park of the Month" event this morning. Around 30 participants enjoyed a guided tour of the park plus sausage sizzle and a chance to plant some seedlings next to our native grasses meadow which is bursting with life on the old dump site.

Six volunteers turned up this morning to get things ready for the Open Day on Sunday. We put out stakes, plants and water and then did a bit more spraying of weeds that are coming up on the landfill. Alan has organised for some contractors to come and go through the landfill grasslands spot-spraying broadleaf weeds.
A reminder that things get under way at 10 on Sunday so if you could be there a bit earlier just to make sure everything is ready. We have decided to go ahead even if there are some showers around. We have around 150-200 tubestock seedlings to be planted and will be getting the people who attend to do some planting which we can help with. BBQ lunch will be provided so we do hope you can make it. The photo is from August last year so on Sunday you check the progress 10 months later.

Report from Alan: Great morning in the park today. GB & JMcD went spot spraying scabiosa and other weeds in the buffer area adjacent to the western heath. AW & GY installed plant ID signs along the tail and VO, ML & PC did some general tidying up along the first sections of the trail. Anzac biscuits for morning tea would have been good. 🤪
Next Bushcare day is the 7th May although we may have an extra one this coming week to ensure we are ready for the Open Day on Sunday 31st May.

The attached video shows the results of our work in turning a weedy ex-council rubbish dump into an expansive native grassland, soon to be protected by a buffer of native shrubs. Already, kangaroos have moved in along with butterflies and other insects feeding on the grasses.

Alan's summary of Thursday:

"7 of us including Justin, must have been the TimTams that was the attraction. Watered around the carpark, chipped weeds on the landfill and sorted the damaged corflutes which Justin took away. Two nasty weeds discovered on the landfill which were removed.
• Jimsonweed (Datur stramonium)
• Buffalo Bur (Solarium rostratum)
Both very prickly
