🦘 Every patch of bush matters 🌿

Across our farming landscapes, remnant vegetation provides critical habitat for native wildlife, supports pollinators and helps connect fragmented habitats.

Through the Enhancing Farm Biodiversity Project, we're helping landholders protect and expand these important areas.

Support may include:
✔ Fencing materials
✔ W**d control
✔ Native revegetation
✔ Shelterbelt establishment

Why get involved?
-Protect native bushland
-Create wildlife corridors
-Improve farm resilience
-Reduce erosion and wind impacts
-Support healthier landscapes for future generations

Together, we can create more connected and biodiverse farming landscapes across our region.

The challenges facing our environment aren’t slowing down — but neither is our community 🌏

Invasive species. Habitat loss. Increasing pressure on our ecosystems.

But also:
🌱 thousands of native plants going into the ground
🐦 habitat being restored
🤝 people working together across properties and landscapes to protect a place like nowhere else on earth

That’s the power of community-led conservation.

As EOFY approaches, it’s a chance to be part of that impact — and help ensure this work continues where it’s needed most.

🌿 Be part of something positive for Dugalup Brook 🌿

This Sunday, the community is coming together once again to help care for one of Dunsborough’s important creeklines — with 1000 native plants going into the ground at Dugalup Brook Reserve.

The planting day continues years of restoration work by local conservation groups and volunteers, including the legacy of the late Ron Glencross — fondly remembered by many as the “gardener of the brook”.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or simply keen to spend a few hours outdoors doing something meaningful, everyone is welcome.

🗓 Sunday June 21
⏰ 11am–1pm
🥪 Free lunch provided

Hosted by the Cape Naturaliste Conservation Enterprise with support from Nature Conservation Margaret River Region, Friends of Meelup and the City of Busselton.

🌱 Join us for the Cape Leeuwin Community Planting Day! 🌱

Help restore one of the South West's most iconic coastal landscapes with a morning of hands-on conservation at Cape Leeuwin on Wadandi Boodja.

📅 Friday 19 June 2026
⏰ 10am – 12pm (please arrive 10 minutes early)
📍 Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse Car Park, Augusta

We're inviting locals, visitors and anyone who loves our coastline to roll up their sleeves and help revegetate recently upgraded areas around the lighthouse precinct and a newly diverted section of the Cape to Cape Track.

Together we'll be planting locally sourced native seedlings from the Augusta Community Nursery and brushing out informal pathways to give sensitive coastal vegetation the best chance to recover and thrive.

Why does it matter? Recent trail upgrades have helped protect fragile coastal vegetation by diverting an eroded section of the Cape to Cape Track. This community planting day will help restore the former track alignment, close informal access points, stabilise the landscape and boost biodiversity for years to come.

What to bring:
✔️ Sturdy closed shoes
✔️ Weather-appropriate clothing
✔️ Reusable water bottle
✔️ Hat and sunscreen
✔️ Gloves (optional)

No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome.

This event is delivered through a partnership between the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), Nature Conservation Margaret River Region and Friends of the Cape to Cape Track.

It's also part of our Caring for Coast program, funded by the Line In The Sand philanthropic group.

Register now and help make a lasting contribution to the future of this remarkable coastline. See https://natureconservation.org.au/events/ 🌿

We're loving these gorgeous swamp banksia (banksia littoralis) flowering now in the Margaret River region and in moist pockets of the Cape to Cape Track! 🌼🌼

Also known as river banksia or seaside banksia, it's a species of small tree endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. The scientific name ‘littoralis’ means ‘belonging to the sea shore’, referring to the coastal woodland habitat of this majestic banksia 👍

It's also a great option if you've got a large garden, particularly in coastal areas or sandy soils. In addition to its ornamental features, this species is handy as a windbreak and to control soil erosion 💨

With plenty of moisture around at the moment, it's a great time to get planting in your garden.

🌿 Protecting remnant bush. Strengthening farms. Supporting biodiversity 🌿

Healthy bushland doesn't just benefit wildlife — it helps create healthier, more resilient farms too.

We're excited to be partnering with the Lower Blackwood LCDC to deliver the Enhancing Farm Biodiversity Project, supporting rural landholders across the Shire of Augusta Margaret River to protect and restore native vegetation.

Eligible landholders may receive support for:
✅ Fencing to protect remnant bush and shelterbelts
✅ W**d control prior to restoration
✅ Revegetation with locally appropriate native species
✅ Establishment of native shelterbelts

Benefits can include:
- Improved biodiversity and wildlife habitat
- Better support for pollinators
- Reduced wind erosion
- Shelter and shade for livestock
- Improved soil health and moisture retention
- Greater resilience to drought and climate variability

Healthy farms and healthy ecosystems go hand in hand.

This is what community care for nature looks like 🌿

It's feeling awe for our wildlife.
It’s muddy boots along the river.
It’s weekends spent planting trees.
It’s neighbours working together to tackle invasive w**ds.
It’s kids learning about the wildlife in their own backyard.

Across our region, people are stepping up to protect what makes this place so special — and it’s making a real difference.

If you’ve ever thought about being part of something like this, now’s a good time.

As the end of financial year approaches, you can support this work with a tax-deductible donation.
