We welcomed a new member and a guest to the society at our April meeting. Here are a few of the stunning flowers and potted plants that were on display. If you’d like to join us at the next meeting, it will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, 9 May at the CWA Hall, Dempster Street, Mareeba. All are welcome.

Our March general meeting was a blaze of colour. We had a great time enjoying all of the different orchid and plant varieties and discussing plant culture. Some very rare and unusual plants were tabled this month. Join us at our next meeting, they're held at 2pm on the second Saturday of every month (excluding December).

We’re back! 🌸
It’s been a little while, but we’re once again sharing the beautiful orchids and other plants exhibited at our monthly meetings.
The October meeting was a special occasion — our application to become an incorporated association was approved! We’re now officially the Mareeba and District Orchid and Pot Plant Culture Society Inc. 🎉
It’s also time to start thinking about our Christmas party. Members are encouraged to come along to the November meeting to help plan the menu for this annual event.
📅 General meetings are held at 2pm in the Mareeba CWA hall on the second Saturday of each month (except December).

The April general meeting was a show of colour with loads of Cattleya and Dendrobium orchids. There were even a few Phalaenopsis to start the season. Check out the photos and consider joining us at the next meeting in May. Meetings are 2 pm on the second Saturday of every month except December.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday for our March General Meeting! There were interesting species orchids along with beautiful hybrid Cattleyas and Dendrobiums. We had the chance to admire the stunning varieties, though I couldn't quite capture every orchid on display with all the questions I had to ask our technical experts.

A special thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge about the origins and fascinating stories about the orchids on display. Their insights added a whole new layer of appreciation for these incredible plants.

On Saturday 8 February we held our Annual General Meeting followed by a General Meeting. There were several very interesting plants in the mix, including a controversially labelled 'Den. bigibbum var. compactum'. One of our technical experts identified that this plant was likely a hybrid due to the purple markings on the pseudobulb. Thanks all for attending, and we'll see you at the next meeting. Here are a few photos of the plants benched at the meeting.

Suzana from our club recently visited the stunning Duta Orchid Gardens in Bali and shared some beautiful photos from her trip with us. Despite the drizzly morning, she had the gardens to herself—pure inspiration for any orchid lover!

We held our first meeting for 2025 on Saturday and were also pleased to welcome potential new members to the society. Here are some of the orchids and pot plants benched at the meeting. It's always great to see something in bloom no matter what the season. Our next general meeting will be held at 2pm, on Saturday the 8th of February. This is also the day and time for the Annual General Meeting.

Mareeba Orchid Societies Xmas Party 2024 Recap

What a fantastic celebration we had on Saturday, 7th December, at the Mareeba Leagues Club!

With 45 attendees, from the Mareeba, Atherton and Mossman societies, the day was filled with delicious food, lively raffles, and wonderful company.

Highlights included:
A buffet lunch featuring roast pork, baked chicken, vegetarian lasagna, and pavlova for dessert.
Both a Christmas Raffle and a Continuous Raffle, organized by the Atherton Orchid Society – thank you to everyone who brought plants and gifts for the raffles.

Our last meeting for 2024 was held Saturday 10 November. There was a wonderful selection of Asian species orchids as well as Aussie natives on display. Next up is our Christmas party and then we break until the first meeting in January 2025!
