๐ŸŒŸ FUN FACT FRIDAY โ€“ 28 AUGUST! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ„ Did you know cows can have best friends? ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ„

Research has found that cows can form strong social bonds and often have preferred companions within their herd. They can become more relaxed when they're spending time with a familiar friend.

Seems friendship isn't just important for us humans! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Living in the Tablelands, we're lucky to have plenty of cattle around, so next time you pass a paddock, you might just be looking at a couple of best mates hanging out together! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ„

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you ever had an animal that formed an unlikely friendship with another animal?

Happy Friday from everyone at Mareeba Community Centre! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŽ‰ FUN FACT FRIDAY! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿฆ Did you know that magpies can recognise individual human faces?

Australian magpies are incredibly intelligent birds and can remember people theyโ€™ve encountered before. They may even respond differently to people depending on whether they remember them as friendly or not! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

So next time a magpie gives you a good long lookโ€ฆ it might actually be remembering you! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฆ

๐Ÿ’ฌ Whatโ€™s the cleverest thing youโ€™ve ever seen a bird do?

Happy Friday from everyone at Mareeba Community Centre! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’› Celebrating Maggie โ€“ What a Journey! ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒŸ

Today is a bittersweet day at Mareeba Community Centre as we farewell our wonderful WorkSkills Trainee, Maggie, on her last day with us.

When Maggie joined our Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, she came to MCC wanting to gain experience, learn new skills, build her confidence and find a pathway into employment.

And what a journey it has been! ๐ŸŒฟ

During her time with us, Maggie has:

๐ŸŽ“ Successfully completed her Certificate I in Workplace Skills
๐Ÿš— Worked towards gaining her driver's licence
๐Ÿ’ผ Gained valuable, real-world workplace experience
๐Ÿค Visited local employers and explored different career pathways
๐ŸŒŸ Built her confidence, communication and workplace skills
๐ŸŽ‰ Helped plan and deliver community events, including the dinner for the rural firefighters in Mutchilba and our Community Connection Day
โค๏ธ Become a much-loved and valued member of the MCC team

But perhaps Maggie's biggest achievement is what comes next...

๐Ÿฆท Maggie has secured employment as a Trainee Dental Assistant in Cairns! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘

We couldn't be prouder.

Watching Maggie grow throughout her traineeship has been incredibly rewarding. From someone who wasn't quite sure where her future would take her, to a confident young woman stepping into a career she genuinely wants to pursue, her determination and growth have been amazing to see.

In Maggie's own words:

"When I look back at myself from when I first started, I can honestly say I have changed a lot. I am more confident, I talk to people more easily and I feel more comfortable in a workplace."

A special acknowledgement also goes to Sheree, our WorkSkills Trainee Supervisor, whose encouragement, patience and belief in our trainees goes far beyond simply supervising a program. Maggie herself credits Sheree with believing in her and giving her that extra push when she didn't always believe in herself. ๐Ÿ’›

Maggie, you should be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved. Your hard work, growth and willingness to step outside your comfort zone have brought you to this exciting next chapter.

While we're very sad to see you leave MCC, this is exactly what the program is about โ€” building skills, creating opportunities and supporting people into meaningful employment.

Congratulations, Maggie! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿฆท๐ŸŒŸ

We wish you every success as you begin your new career as a Trainee Dental Assistant. We know you're going to do amazing things, and you'll always be part of the MCC family. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒ™ FUN FACT FRIDAY! ๐ŸŒ™

โœจ Did you know? The Moon is slowly moving away from Earth!

Every year, the Moon drifts about 3.8 centimetres farther away from our planetโ€”that's roughly the same speed your fingernails grow! ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ•

This happens because the Moon's gravity creates ocean tides on Earth. Over millions of years, the interaction between Earth and the Moon has gradually pushed the Moon into a slightly larger orbit.

Don't worry thoughโ€”we won't notice it in our lifetime! At its current rate, it would take more than 26 million years for the Moon to move just 1,000 kilometres farther away.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you ever looked up at a full Moon and wondered what mysteries it holds? Tell us your favourite thing about the night sky! โœจ
