Last Sunday, 7 June, we had a perfect clear sunny winter day for Boze Cialo (Corpus Christie Feast) at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in Marayong. Polacy turned out in full force to participate in Holy Mass and the annual procession to pray at 4 alters. Lajkonik also participated along with Dance Ensembles Kujawy and Podhale, Polish Scouts and representatives from other Polish Organisations. Afterwards people filed into the John Paul II Hall for hot tea and coffee, delicious pierogi, bigos and kielbaski. A short concert by dance ensembles has become an annual tradition. Lajkonik juniors performed Tance Slaskie with some help from their Seniors. Lajkonik Choir sang two Polish folk songs and the much loved song Polskie Kwiaty (Polish flowers). Lajkonik President Abigail Latecka MC-d in her golden Szlachecki costume, and did a terrific job even though she only received the final programme that day. She told people all about the tradition of Boze Cialo and what it all means. In the third song, Lajkonik seniors joined the Senior Choir on stage in the playful song "Oj Zagraj Mi Muzyczko" and the audience clapped and sang along. We saw both Podhale and Kujawy in delightful dances from Zywiec and Silesia. The famous Kujawski wedding dance was both beautiful and breathtaking. There was also Krakowiak, Polka Lubelska and a duet oberek by two girls from Syrenka, so lots of variety. Lajkonik finished the programme with a dynamic newly-choreographed contemporary dance called Threads of the Earth (Nici Naszej Ziemi) to music by band Tirvola, with steps and sequences inspired by a Polish Village in south-eastern Poland. It was indeed something "different!" Thank you to everyone for making a donation which was shared amongst the 4 groups present and helps us in so many ways to keep going! Dziękuje i Szczęść Boże! Brilliant photos by Henry Iglinski.

Lajkonik Delivers on a delightful High Tea, Marayong 2026 on the occasion of Polish Mothers' Day.
Yesterday, at 1pm the John Paul II Hall was transformed into an elegant setting with English porcelain, a scrumptious selection of home made cakes and sandwiches on tiered cake stands, fruit platters, special teas, coffee and wine, flowers for mums and special ladies. The Choir sang delightfully, the combined Lajkonik junior groups from The Polish School of Sydney in Randwick and Marayong danced for the first time together in Tance Slaskie (with a little help from Senior dancers), and Senior Group performed Przepioreczka with Oberek. The colour and energy was spectacular and the spirit of teamwork amazing. After a number of participation dances which involved all our guests - young and old - Lajkonik seniors debuted a new contemporary dance in our repertoire called "Threads of the Earth". Our guests left with delicious cakes to take home.
Undoubtedly it was a great deal of effort and detail in the preparation with lots of challenges, BUT - we did it! Thankyou to everyone who contributed. What a wonderful afternoon to add to our album of memorable performances. Thankyou to Amanda and Narel Smallgoods for donating delicious wedliny (smallgoods) for our event!

Lajkonik Polish Song and Dance Ensemble worked particularly hard this year in terms of contributing to celebrations and events around Polish National Day 3 May. On Saturday, 2 May 2026, our dancers travelled out to The Polish School of Sydney at Randwick to perform Przepioreczka with Oberek to the Polish School Community. The children, parents and teachers enjoyed the performance. At 4pm in the afternoon, Lajkonik girls gave a beautiful performance of Kujawiak-Oberek at the 3 May Akademia in the Ashfield Polish Club organised by Ela Cesarska. One of our girls, Zuzia Latecka received the Druh Szupryczynski Award and of course we were particularly proud of her achievement. On Sunday, Marayong Our Lady of Częstochowa Parish came alive with a special visit from Bishop for Polonia, Robert Chrząszcz. At the request of the Parish, Lajkonik's Artistic Director Urszula Lang co-ordinated and MC-d a concert to which Kujawy Folkloric Ensemble from Bankstown was also invited. Consul Mariusz Stus gave a most insightful and interesting opening occasional speech. Lajkonik Choir performed some patriotic songs looking stunning in their Sląskie costumes, and our dancers performed two duets (Polonez Mazur and Krakowiak). Our girls repeated their Kujawiak-Oberek from the day before. Kujawy also danced Kujawiak-Oberek and Krakowiak with their great style. Although dances were repeated, every single item had a different interpretation and different costumes, resulting in an interesting concert and the audience was highly appreciative. A lovely "full company" photo was taken at the end of the concert, together with Bishop Robert, the Polish Consul Mariusz Stus, Ks. Tadeusz Przybylak and President of the Polish Community Council, Malgosia Kwiatkowska.
For the next few days, Lajkonik's Artistic Director Urszula Lang (also Vice President of Kosciuszko Heritage and Deputy Vice President of Federacja NSW) was very busy as she participated in a range of important meetings with the Polish Delegation including Minister Wladyslaw Bartoszewski and Director Anna Sochanska, at Polonia Club Plumpton, Ashfield Polish Club, at the Polish Consulate in Sydney, and at the Polish Embassy in Canberra. Issues important to Polonia and especially Polish young people were raised and discussed with the Polish delegates. Urszula Lang made sure that Polish Community concerns with bike track works in the vicinity of the Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki Monument in Banjo Paterson Park in Jindabyne were raised.
Enjoy a selection of our photos and please give Lajkonik a thumbs up for the hard work we do in keeping Polish culture alive in Australia. The young people could be busy doing something else but they chose to celebrate Polish Constitution Day and give a lot in collaborating with various other Organisations in Sydney to make each event special.

Help us keep the rich legacy of Polish folk dance alive!

Four Lajkonik dancers are currently in Kraków, studying daily to become professional Polish dance instructors. It is a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in Polish folk dance, alongside peers from across Poland who are already leading or preparing to lead dance ensembles. Once qualified, our dancers will be able to apply their skills both within Lajkonik and in Sydney’s Polish schools, continuing to share and grow Polish cultural heritage in Australia. This course is a key investment in ensuring the continuity and longevity of Polish folk traditions for future generations.

If you would like to support this important cultural initiative and help our young leaders continue the important work of professionally teaching the unique Polish folk dances to the younger generations, please consider donating via our GoFundMe page. Every contribution—large or small—brings us closer to preserving and passing on the rich legacy of Polish folk dance in Australia. Dziękujemy! ❤️🇵🇱💃🏼🕺🏼
