I don't often write posts like this, but this one feels important.
This year has been one of the hardest I've experienced as the owner of a small creative allied health practice.
Not because there is less need.
If anything, I've never seen so many children, adults and families needing support.
But I've also watched families lose access to services because of funding changes, support coordination changes, increasing system complexity, and decisions that don't always reflect what is happening in people's everyday lives.
Behind every client who leaves our practice is a person whose story I know. A child whose confidence has grown through music. A teenager who finally found a safe way to express themselves. A parent who, for the first time in years, felt understood. These aren't numbers to us—they're relationships.
Running a private allied health practice is about so much more than providing appointments. It's about building a sustainable service so our communities continue to have access to high-quality care close to home.
That's why I'm asking every Queensland private allied health practice owner to complete the QAHPG survey.
This isn't just about advocating for our individual businesses. It's about helping Government understand the reality of delivering allied health in Queensland and the impact policy decisions have on the families we support every single day.
Whether you're a music therapist, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, psychologist, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, dietitian, social worker, art therapist or another allied health professional—your voice matters.
Creative therapies are part of this conversation too. Every day I witness the extraordinary things that happen when people are given a safe, creative space to connect, regulate, communicate and belong. Those outcomes deserve to be recognised alongside every other allied health profession.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey if you haven't already. Then share it with another practice owner who might not have seen it.
The stronger our collective voice, the stronger our advocacy will be.
Because this is bigger than any one practice.
It's about protecting the future of allied health in Queensland so that children, adults and families can continue to access the support they need, when they need it most.
