Vietnam Veterans' Day Tuesday 18 August 2026

On 18 August, we commemorate Vietnam Veterans' Day on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in 1966. We remember the sacrifices of those who died and say thank you to almost 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of our involvement in the Vietnam War.
The Mansfield RSL will be conducting a service at 10am in front of the Menin Gates, Highett St Mansfield. It will be a small service held by our members. All are welcome.

Remembering one of our local lads who died on this day 60 years ago in the line of duty by honouring his service and paying our respects to his family and comrades.

Vale Reginald James Chard OAM
NX134343
31 October 1923 – 24 July 2026
With heavy hearts, we farewell Reg Chard, who peacefully passed away today at the remarkable age of 102.

Enlisting at 18, Reg marched through New Guinea's mountains, survived malaria at Eora Creek and the brutal fighting at Sanananda. When he came home, he built a life with his beloved Betty, then honoured his mates' sacrifice by devoting his later years to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway, where his voice and spirit became irreplaceable.

We extend our deepest condolences to Reg's family, friends and all the lives he touched throughout his incredible life.

Rest easy, Reg. Your courage lives on in every step along that track.

Lest we forget.
