Well, that's a wrap for the CWA Mannering Park Open day for 2026 and for those who were unable to make it this year, here is a little bit on what you missed out on.
We had demonstrations in Spinning wool on a Spinning Wheel, Knitting and a style of crocheting called Tunisian Crochet, which was done differently to traditional Crochet, also displays of our Homecooked wares, Biscuits, Coconut ice, Marmalade, Jam, and Relish's which were for sale. We also had many of the Handmade knitting and crochet items on display and for sale, as well as our Trauma Teddies which go to Local Doctors, Ambulances and Local Hospitals.
We also met Litiana and Kitty who were interested in our International Exhibit, which is the study of Fiji. The Cultural Exhibit featured artworks by Christina Laub and State Prize winner for Black and White Photography ("At the Railway Station") winner Carole Robinson, both from the Mannering Park Branch. We also had an exhibit by our Agriculture and Environment Officer Leone Peters and this year's topics for study, the Glossy black Cockatoo and the She Oak Tree. We even had a visit from two of our local ducks.
To top off the day we were also celebrating our 68th Birthday as a Branch, with Birthday Cake complete with Candle, and of course the raffle (Raffle Prize kindly donated by Creighton's Funerals) drawn by Branch President Kay Small, and the Winner of both first and second prize was...Ken Douglas.
A big thankyou to all members who were able to participate, and to our wonderful visitors who make it all worthwhile. As this is my first year at Mannering Park CWA I have to admit that I had an absolute ball, meeting so many new people, while enjoying working with and even learning a few new things from the members who were great fun to be with. I look forward to the 2027 Open Day.
