A modest crowd of dedicated members and a single guest turned up for drinks in the President’s Bar on Friday evening, 1st May 2026. Bill Borg our volunteer long-time Barman said it was always a little quiet on the Friday after ANZAC Day. Senior VP Rex Coombes was absent, so President Harry Pregnell stepped in, to deliver this week’s ‘Dispatches’. He noted Rex and Peter Dixon were currently on Sick Parade, and wished them speedy recoveries. His main message was to express a sincere ‘Thank You’ to Bruce and Audrey Pattison for another magnificent job with ANZAC Day merchandising - both acquiring it and organising teams to fill rosters and sell it - an effort they have undertaken for many events over many years and which contributes significantly to the annual upkeep of our Hall. Sadly, Bruce and Audrey have decided to stand down from this role after ANZAC Day 2026, so Harry said we now need someone to step forward and take up the important Merchandising Manager’s role, and he’s calling for a volunteer or volunteers to take on this important role for us! If merchandising is something YOU could manage for us, please give Harry a call on 0416 175 246.

Our dynamic ANZAC Day 2026 celebrations concluded with a performance by our own musical dynamic duo, Manly Lota RSL members Mardi and Rob Gow, who have been entertaining Aussie troops and their allies with live Jazz, Blues and R&B for over half a century - and who continue their double act as “Gemini Blue”. We love them, and you can contact them for your own events at: [email protected]

ANZAC Day 2026 - the 0800 Hours Parade and Service in Manly drew another huge crowd! Our normal compere, Senior Vice President Rex Coombes, was ill today; so our Immediate Past President Michael Muir stepped in to host the event in Rex’s place. Everything ran perfectly to plan, except the weather … with rain pouring down at both the start and finish. But that failed to dampen the spirits of all who made this event so successful.
