💡 Did you know?

This giant Robey Cross Compound steam engine arrived at the Bunnings Tone River Mill in 1951 after being transported all the way from a sugar mill in Chillagoe, North Queensland 🍬

Workers reportedly found the engine still covered in sugar from its previous job before it began powering saws and machinery in Manjimup’s timber industry.

After decades of hard work, the engine blew its final whistle in December 1978 💨

Pop down to the Steam Museum at Manjimup Heritage Park and see it for yourself!

A little piece of Manjimup history is back where it belongs.

Today, the restored timber whim was installed next to the State Timber Museum, at the Manjimup Heritage Park. This historic piece has been given some TLC by the Manji Men’s Shed, whose time, skill and dedication have helped preserve an important part of our timber heritage. A huge thank you to everyone involved in the restoration and installation - community collaboration at its finest!

Once used in the timber industry to transport logs from the bush, the whim now stands proudly as a reminder of the hard work, ingenuity and community spirit that helped shape our region.

If you’re heading through the park, make sure you stop, take a look and appreciate a story from Manjimup’s past.

The State Timber Reflections space has officially opened as part of the Manjimup Heritage Park, offering a powerful and thoughtful tribute to Western Australia’s timber industry and the people who shaped it.

This transformed reflections room, as part of the State Timber Museum, tells the stories of a long-standing industry through the voices, experiences and memories of those who lived and worked within it. From generations of timber workers and families to the broader community, the space honours the skill, resilience and contribution of an industry that has now come to an end with the transition out of native forestry logging in Western Australia.

State Timber Reflections is designed as an ever-changing space. As stories continue to be shared, the exhibition will grow and evolve. We warmly welcome contributions from the community in the form of stories, photographs and personal memories to help further enrich this place of reflection and learning.

If you have something to share, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can ensure these important stories are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.

Visit the Manjimup Heritage Park and experience State Timber Reflections — a space shaped by community, history and memory.
