Domestic violence doesn't always leave visible marks.

There is a form of abuse that traps people not with fists, but with fear, isolation and control. It's called coercive control. And it is more common, and more dangerous, than most people realize.

It can look like this:

📱 Checking your phone, tracking your location or monitoring your spending without your consent
👥 Slowly cutting you off from the friends and family who matter to you
🗺️ Controlling where you go, who you see, or what you wear
đź’° Taking over all financial decisions or leaving you with nothing
đź’¬ Making you feel responsible for everything that goes wrong

In New South Wales and Queensland, coercive control is now a criminal offence because the law recognizes what survivors have always known this is abuse, and it can be deadly.

Here in Western Australia, the conversation is underway. The WA Government has already invested $5 million in community education because awareness is the first step.

If any of this sounds familiar you are not alone. And it is not your fault.

More people are speaking up. That matters more than you might think.

97,800 FDV offenders were recorded by police in Australia in 2024–25. This is the largest single-year increase since national recording began.

Before these numbers alarm you stop for a moment.

Rising reporting rates don't simply mean more violence. They mean more people are finding the courage to name what is happening to them. It means awareness is working and that communities are creating the conditions where speaking up feels possible.

That is real progress. And it is happening right now, here in Perth.

But reporting is only the first step.
Every person who speaks up needs a system ready to respond: services that meet them where they are, programs that address root causes, and a community that doesn't look away.

At the Stronger Families Foundation, we are here for that moment. For the fathers ready to change. For the families ready to heal.

If you or someone you know needs support — help is available 24/7.

We are feeling incredibly honoured and a little bit overwhelmed to be named a finalist in the 2026 WA Regional Business Excellence Awards.

To be recognised statewide alongside so many impactful organisations is a humbling experience. For us, this nomination is not about accolades; it is about our vision for a future where the cycle of family violence is broken, and every home is a place of safety and belonging.

This recognition belongs to the families who show bravery in seeking change, and to the community that walks alongside us. Our thanks to the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry and RCCIWA for the nomination. We look forward to celebrating regional WA’s incredible work in April.

A huge congratulations to Allambee, We Say No To Violence and OVIS for organising yesterday’s silent march. A truly profound and reflective tribute to those women who have been murdered and who suffer as a result of FDV and coercive control. Thank you also to the speakers who so courageously and generously shared their experiences.

And a huge thank you to you and Lisa for your continued support.

Huge congratulations to Stronger Families Foundation on being named the Winner of the 2025 Charity and Not-for-Profit Award at the recent Peel Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. Business Awards.

I’m incredibly proud to sponsor this award each year, and a big thank you to Lisa Munday MLA for presenting it on my behalf.
