π World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026 π
Peel Community Legal Services was proud to host our World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) event at the Greenfields Family & Community Centre.
Guests were warmly welcomed on arrival by Midnight Rose - Shevonne, whose beautiful singing created a wonderful atmosphere and set the tone for a meaningful and enjoyable morning.
It was wonderful to see so many community members attend, engage in meaningful conversations, and learn more about elder abuse and the ways we can work together to prevent it. We greatly appreciated the thoughtful questions, discussions, and interactions throughout the morning.
A special thank you to:
β¨ Councillor Jenny Green for her opening remarks.
β¨ Mayor Amber Kearns for taking the time to visit the event.
β¨ Lorraine for delivering the Acknowledgement of Country.
β¨ Our information stall holders β Allambee, Peel Senior Relationship Service (PSRS), and the City of Mandurah Seniors and Community Centre β for sharing valuable information and support services with attendees.
A huge thank you also goes to Carolina and the Mandurah Filipino Australian Multicultural Community Incorporated for their fantastic spring roll cooking demonstration, followed by vibrant cultural performances from their talented dancers and singer.
A very special thank you to Little Baker for generously donating WEAAD cupcakes for everyone to enjoy.π§
A highlight of the morning was our "Changing Elder Abuse Piece by Piece" treasure hunt. Participants searched for puzzle pieces around the venue, with each piece prompting discussion about the domains of elder abuse. It was a fun and interactive way to encourage learning and conversation, while the completed puzzle provided a powerful visual representation of the importance of raising awareness and working together to prevent elder abuse. ππ§©
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Department of Communities and Encompass Legal and Community Services (ELCS) for their support in making this important event possible.
Together, we continue to raise awareness, promote respect, and support older people in our community.
