In Loving Memory of Toni

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one of our much-loved Bridge Builders volunteers, Toni.

Toni generously gave her time to Bridge Builders and became a familiar and valued part of our Community Food Pantry services. Her contribution went far beyond simply volunteering her time, she was part of our team, our Friday routine and the Bridge Builders family.

Fridays simply won’t feel the same without her. We will forever think of Toni and remember the time, care and kindness she gave to our organisation and the people in our community.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Toni’s family, children and grandchildren, whom we heard so much about and knew meant the absolute world to her.

This is a very sad loss for everyone at Bridge Builders, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had Toni as part of our lives and our organisation.

Thank you for everything you gave to our community, Toni. You will be deeply missed and always remembered. 💙

We’re incredibly proud to share some exciting news!

Bridge Builders has been named a finalist in the Partnership Category of the 2026 YouthCARE Australia Governor’s Chaplaincy Awards! 🎉

Our work has always been built on partnership. We know that we can achieve so much more for children and families when community organisations, schools and chaplains work together.

Through programs like Backpack Buddies, chaplains are often the vital link between Bridge Builders and the children who need support. They see the need, build trusted relationships with families and help us ensure support reaches children discreetly, respectfully and with dignity.

To have this partnership recognised as a finalist at the Governor’s Chaplaincy Awards is something we are incredibly proud of.

A huge thank you to the wonderful chaplains we work alongside, and to everyone who plays a part in making these partnerships work. This recognition belongs to all of you too. ❤️

And congratulations to all of the 2026 finalists, what an incredible group of people and organisations making a difference across WA.

We are absolutely thrilled to see our incredible Leandri Cronje recognised nationally as a runner up in the Coles Community Food Relief Champion Awards! ❤️

Leandri has been part of the Bridge Builders journey since 2018, starting as a volunteer and becoming an integral part of the organisation and the work we do today.

Anyone who knows Leandri knows just how much heart she puts into our community. Whether she’s coordinating our programs, solving the hundred things that inevitably pop up in a day, supporting our volunteers, packing food or making sure families receive the help they need with dignity and kindness, Leandri is always there, sleeves rolled up and ready to help.

Her contribution has also been instrumental in the growth of Backpack Buddies, which now provides weekend food support to more than 280 local children each week.

This recognition is so well deserved, and we couldn’t be prouder to have Leandri as part of the Bridge Builders family.

Congratulations Leandri! Thank you for everything you do, every single week, for Bridge Builders and for our community.

We think you’re an absolute champion, and now the rest of Australia is finding out too! ❤️

🥕🍎 WE’RE RUNNING LOW ON FRESH FOOD — CAN YOU HELP? 🥔🍌

Each week, Bridge Builders provides direct food support to 115+ local families, around 276 people.

But over the past few weeks, there’s been one thing noticeably missing from our hampers…

Fresh fruit and vegetables.

Despite the incredible support we receive from SecondBite and our supermarket collections Coles Woolworths, the amount of fresh produce coming through has dropped, and we’re struggling to put enough fruit and veg into our weekly hampers.

Right now, we’d LOVE donations of:

🍎 Apples
🥔 Potatoes
🥕 Carrots
🧅 Onions
🍊 Oranges & mandarins
🍌 Bananas
🥦 Any fresh fruit or vegetables

Got an overflowing veggie garden? We’ll happily take your surplus!

Doing the grocery shopping? Adding an extra bag of potatoes, carrots or apples to your trolley could make a real difference to a local family.

🛒 SUPERMARKET & PRODUCE MANAGERS — WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

If your store has surplus fresh produce or could add Bridge Builders to your regular charity collectors, please get in touch 0458 297 185.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO Ocean Road Primary School! 💙

On behalf of Bridge Builders and our Backpack Buddies program, we would like to extend a massive thank you to the incredible students, families and staff at Ocean Road Primary School for their amazing support during Homelessness Awareness Day.

Through their free dress day, the school community came together and collected an outstanding 730+ cans of soup, with donations generously supporting Backpack Buddies Mandurah and the St Damien’s Parish Community Pantry.

The amount of food collected is tremendous and will go such a long way in supporting children, families and individuals experiencing hardship within our local community. For our Backpack Buddies program, donations like these help us continue filling backpacks with essential food items for children who may otherwise go without over the weekend.

It is wonderful to see an entire school community come together around such an important cause and teach our younger generation about kindness, compassion and looking out for those around us.

A special acknowledgement to Chaplain Rachael, Mandurah Junior Councillors Kahlia C and Keani R, and everyone who helped organise, support and contribute to such a successful day.

Please be advised that Freo Street Doctors will NOT be attending Bridge Builders today, Monday 24th August. There will be no medical service available between 1pm–4pm today.

Our Community Food Pantry is still operating as normal today from 11am–1pm.

A huge shoutout to Solomons Flooring for giving our office space a much-needed facelift! 🙌

The generosity of their donated carpet and installation has made such a difference to our space, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.

As our organisation continues to grow, so does the number of meetings we hold, people we welcome through our doors, and conversations happening in our space. Sometimes, simply having an environment that feels more professional, welcoming and presentable can make all the difference and Solomons has helped make that happen for us.

Support like this allows organisations like ours to put more of our resources towards the work we’re here to do, while still creating a space our team and visitors can feel proud to walk into.

If we could recommend a carpet company, we’d happily choose Solomons Mandurah. Thank you for investing in our space and supporting what we do. 💙

A little boot scoot down memory lane… 👢

Let’s boot scoot back to our Boot Scootin’ Bingo Night and look at what an incredible difference one night made!

MANDURAH, LOOK WHAT YOU MADE POSSIBLE!

Boot Scootin’ Bingo raised an incredible $4,856 to help local kids experiencing hunger.

That’s enough to provide 243 Backpack Buddies food packs, helping children get through the weekend when breakfast clubs aren’t there to provide support.

Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket, had a crack at the Beer Wall, grabbed some merch, bought raffle tickets, donated, sponsored the event, or simply pulled on their boots and came along for a great night.

Together, you helped provide:

🍽️ 729 dinners
🥣 486 breakfasts
🥪 486 lunches
🍎 486 snack packs

With more than 200 children currently waiting for support through our Backpack Buddies program, every ticket bought, raffle entered and dollar donated makes a real difference.

From all of us at Bridge Builders, thank you, Mandurah!

What a night, what a community, and what an incredible impact.

Thank you for helping us Give Hunger the Boot and reminding us just how amazing our community is.
