G’day Folks! Please note this important message from QPRC regarding the upcoming Ausalert trial in our area! This is wonderful technology which will keep us better informed about all manner of emergencies. 😊❤️

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, the Australian Government needs to test the system in communities across Australia, and Queanbeyan, has been chosen as a test location.

At 2:00pm on Sunday 21 June 2026, AusAlert community testing is happening in the area between Yass Road, Silva Avenue and Aurora Avenue. If you’re in this location or in the Queanbeyan area at the time of the test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone, tablet or smart watch.

The AusAlert test in your area is a Priority Alert. It will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.

If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

We love all our mum- members.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Today is St. Florian’s Day - International Firefighters’ Day.

It’s a moment to recognise the work firefighters do every day: protecting communities, supporting each other, and showing up when it matters most.

Our members fight fires, fight time, and too often have to fight for the resources needed to do the job properly.

Today we acknowledge the contribution of firefighters everywhere and the pride that comes with serving our communities.

Hi Guys - the NSW Bush Fire season came to an end at midnight last night. Whilst that means you no longer need a permit to undertake a planned burn, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbors giving at least 24 hours' notice prior to lighting up. It is the landowner's responsibility to undertake a safe and controlled burn, so please prepare your burn well, and if you need any advice, please let the RFS know - we'll be happy to provide you with advice on what might/might not be suitable. The Bush Fire Danger Period ends at midnight (31 March).

From 1 April, you generally don’t need a fire permit to burn.

BUT you must:
* notify neighbours and the RFS 24 hours before burning.
* check weather conditions before lighting up.
* have equipment ready to control the fire on your property.
