It’s always wonderful to see emerging horticultural talent being recognised - and Beth Gregory is certainly deserving of the spotlight. 🌿🏆

Congratulations to Beth on being named both Horticultural Student of the Year AND Melbourne Polytechnic Student of the Year at this year’s Melbourne Polytechnic Awards!

Driven by a deep passion for the environment and sustainable landscape practices, Beth brings a thoughtful ecological lens to every aspect of her horticulture studies and practice - combining creativity with strong scientific understanding in soil health, plant care and landscape design.

Beth’s talent was also recognised at the 2026 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, where her Achievable Garden 'Mild Confrontations: “You don’t think about comfort, you feel it”' received both a Silver Medal and the prestigious People’s Choice Award.

A fantastic achievement and a wonderful example of the future of horticulture and garden design in Australia. Congratulations, Beth! 👏

Last night’s Tree & Shrub Growers event was a lot of fun at Van Berkel Distributors in Monbulk.

A big thank you to David Van Berkel and the team for opening their doors for a behind-the-scenes look at the business, production systems, machinery and impressive Wollemi Pine growing set up.

Almost 70 people came along for the tour, and stayed for dinner and drinks at the Watering Hole Tavern.

Thanks again to the Van Berkel team, and everyone who came along!

May Trade Day brought all the colour, energy and good vibes to KCC park, with growers and buyers coming together for another busy autumn market 🌸

This month’s “Think Pink” theme saw the industry showing its support for Breast Cancer Network Australia, with plenty of pink outfits, laughs and a few very committed costumes across the market 💗

As well as beautiful seasonal stock and gift lines for sale, there was plenty of action around the raffle, with 5 very happy winners taking home some pink-toned plants in time for Mother’s Day.

Thanks to NGIV Platinum partner for sponsoring the day 👏🏼

Great to spend the morning last week at the National Golf Club on the Mornington Peninsula, listening to Opposition Leader Jess Wilson MP.

It was fantastic to see many of her colleagues in attendance, including Federal Member for Flinders Zoe McKenzie and Mornington Member Chris Crewther discussing key issues across the state as we head towards the Nepean by-election and
the State Election on 28 November.

With a commitment to invest $15M into the delivery of a Horticulture Centre of Excellence, Ms Wilson confirmed that any policy commitments made by her team would be delivered if they are elected to government in November.

Thank you to Josh Sinclair and the team from Committee for Frankston and Mornington Peninsula for hosting such a valuable event.

NGIV was delighted to see our friends from Therapeutic Horticulture Australia, Kayte and Amelia feature as part of Harry and Meghan's current Australian tour. In their roles as Garden Therapists, they facilitated a Garden Therapy session for Harry, Meghan and six adolescent in-patients just like they would offer their patients, families and staff.

The Royal Children's Hospital is one of only three pediatric hospitals worldwide that has a Horticultural Therapy program embedded in the hospital itself. Great to see this pioneering work getting the attention it deserves!
