See what’s next for horticulture 🌱

Australian Horticultural Trials Week returns 1-4 December 2026, bringing together growers, breeders and allied businesses for four days of new plants, products, innovation and industry connection.

Go behind the scenes, explore new varieties and genetics, see the latest trials first-hand and meet the people behind them.

With some locations also hosting multiple exhibitors this year, there’ll be even more to discover along the way.

Meet ‘Precious Pearl’ - 2026 Plant of the Year.

Corymbia ficifolia - ‘Precious Pearl’ - brings the colour and character of a flowering Australian gum into a compact form suited to contemporary gardens, streetscapes and urban landscapes.

Behind it are years of breeding, selection, trialling and propagation - a great example of the horticultural expertise and innovation Plant of the Year celebrates.

Could your plant be next?

Applications are now open for Plant of the Year 2027 + 2028.

Trees, green walls, rooftops, gardens and planted laneways are increasingly becoming part of Melbourne’s built environment.

And they’re doing much more than making our city look good. Green infrastructure has an important role to play in cooling our urban environment, supporting biodiversity and creating greener, more liveable places.

Yesterday, our Hort Trainers Network joined the City of Melbourne for a Green Infrastructure Walking Tour through the C*D.

It was a chance to see some of this work firsthand - and explore the horticultural knowledge and skills needed to make it happen.

Because behind every thriving green space are people who know plants. And as we ask more of greenlife in our cities, our industry - and the people training its future workforce - have an important role to play. 🌱

A big thank you to the City of Melbourne team for sharing their knowledge and showing us around.
