What an incredible day on Country at the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust!

Kelly and Jade from the Reclink East Gippsland team were honoured to attend the Red-Mob Pathway and Volunteer Emergency Services Day, working alongside Gipp Sport to deliver the physical activity and engagement component of this fantastic community event.

It was amazing to see hundreds of students from across East Gippsland getting involved, connecting with one another and having fun through a range of activities including volleyball, tug of war, AFL, NFL, frisbee and more. The energy, enthusiasm and teamwork on display made for a truly memorable day.

The event, delivered in partnership with Moogji Aboriginal Council East Gippsland Inc., Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust and Australian Red Cross, brought together more than 40 organisations to showcase volunteering opportunities, emergency services pathways, community preparedness and career options for local young people.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this day such a success. We are incredibly grateful to have been invited onto Country to support such an inspiring event and to play a small part in creating positive connections through sport, recreation and community.

Days like these remind us of the power of working together to create opportunities, strengthen communities and inspire the next generation.

We’re proud to share that Reclink Australia has been recognised as a joint winner in the Community Category of the Victorian Resilient Australia Awards, Emergency Management Victoria.

Our program, Rebuilding the Social Fabric: 5 Years of Community Recovery, supports long-term recovery and community resilience across Far East Gippsland following the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires.

Through sport, recreation, arts and volunteering opportunities, we've helped create safe, welcoming spaces where people can reconnect, rebuild confidence and strengthen community bonds.

This recognition belongs to the local communities, champions, partners and participants who have made this work possible, and our team in Mallacoota - Callista, Kelly and Jade. Thank you for helping rebuild the social fabric of some of Victoria’s most remote communities.

Hi everyone,

The Mallacoota Surf Life Saving Club is looking for expressions of interest for an adult Bronze Medallion course. If we get enough numbers, the course will run in Term 4.

The proposed schedule is:

Theory: Thursday afternoons/evenings
Practicals: Friday afternoons at 4:00 pm at Bastion Beach
Duration: Approximately 6 weeks, with the final assessment in the first week of December.

If you are interested in joining, please contact Simon at [email protected].

Thanks, and I look forward to a great season ahead!

The Surf Life Saving Club has supported our staff to gain the Bronze Medallion each year and is a fantastic community to be a part of.

Gain a skill, create connection, support local community.

In Mallacoota, we play together.

In our small, isolated town there often aren’t enough players to create separate basketball competitions for different ages or genders. So, we do things differently.

Reclink's free Social Basketball brings everyone together. Young people and adults, women and men, experienced players and those simply wanting to have a go. And that mix is exactly what makes it possible.

Every Monday evening, participants aged 15+ come together for a friendly but competitive game. There are no fees, no club registration and no expectation to commit every week. This casual approach makes it easier for people to participate, while providing Mallacoota with a regular social basketball opportunity that otherwise wouldn’t exist.

The value of the program goes far beyond the game itself. Young people play alongside teachers, parents and other community members, creating connections across generations and opportunities for positive relationships and mentoring.

The value of the program is reflected in this participant's feedback: “Feeling like I am able to be part of a sports team, that otherwise, I would not get this opportunity.”

In Mallacoota, inclusion and flexibility aren’t just nice ideas, they’re what make community sport possible.

A huge thank you to for supporting a surfing clinic for our Reclink homeschool group in South Australia.

The kids were so eager to hit the water and have some fun, showing plenty of bravery in the freezing conditions!

Safe to say, everyone had a fantastic time and we think a few of them may have caught the surfing bug! A shout-out to Surfing Australia and Surf Culture Crew for making it such a great experience.

With thanks to Macquarie Sports for helping make opportunities like this possible.

For 10 weeks, Reclink provided a bus service to the Mallacoota community for weekly trips to the closest public pool in Pambula, NSW over 70km away. It was a great success and the impact reached far beyond the water.

Thanks to this free bus service, residents of all ages, from children under seven to adults in their seventies, enjoyed the opportunity to stay active, improve their wellbeing, and connect with others. For many older participants, the service removed the barrier of travelling long distances, making it possible to attend the pool for rehabilitation, gentle exercise, or simply the joy of a swim.

The journey itself became just as important as the destination. Friendships were formed across generations, stories were shared, and laughter filled the bus, thanks in no small part to our wonderful driver, whose kindness and humour made everyone feel welcome.

Many participants also enjoyed stopping in Pambula after their swim for a coffee, cake or a visit to the markets, creating opportunities to stay socially connected and support local businesses.

At Reclink Australia, we believe that recreation creates connection. Programs like the Swim Bus help reduce isolation, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and strengthen communities one journey at a time.

It has been a busy month for trainees in Queensland completing the 20-week Skilling Queenslanders for Work Programs in Caboolture and Logan.

Highlights were trainees from both sites getting together to explore the Brisbane Careers and Employment Expo at the Convention Centre.

It was very productive, with trainees having the opportunity to speak to employers and training organisations as they plan their career pathways after completing their traineeship at Reclink.

Caboolture trainees had a visit to Diggerman on the Sunshine Coast where they completed working at heights and confined spaces training as well as trying out various types of plant machinery on site.

Next week, Caboolture's Conservation and Ecosystem Management trainees graduate with several already securing employment with other businesses. Congratulations to everything you have achieved over the last few months.
