I AM DESTINY
An original play with words and music by Darren Heskes is a compelling dark comedy-drama that tells the story of a mysterious woman confined to a prison hospital and her three daughters, whose lives have been shaped by a devastating family tragedy.

Blending drama, music and innovative theatrical storytelling, this unique production crosses genres and challenges convention. Part play, part musical, it offers a range of fascinating characters, powerful themes and memorable music.

With 23 characters played by a cast of 12–16 performers, there are opportunities for experienced actors, emerging performers, singers and non-singers alike.

We're looking for:
2 strong vocalists
6 average to good singers
Several important acting roles that do not require singing

of an original theatrical work- I AM DESTINY - words and music by Darren Heskes.
At the information night, as well as giving a more thorough overview of the plot and characters, there will be excerpts from the script to act out and we'll look at some of the songs.
I AM DESTINY is a dark comedy/drama set in present day Queensland. It tells the tale of a mysterious woman locked away in a prison hospital and her 3 daughters all separated by a family tragedy. This theatre piece crosses genres and sometimes moves away from theatrical convention. Part play, part musical, this work has some interesting characters that the author would like you to meet. Perhaps you might consider auditioning to put your own skills into these roles. The show requires a talented and versatile cast.
There are 23 characters that could be played by a minimum of 12 to a maximum of 16 performers. This includes 2 above average vocalists, 6 average to good vocalists and some important parts for actors who can or can't sing.
In brief, the main roles are:
DESTINY – The mother and central role - 40+ (playing 60+) – good alto or mezzo
ARIA - 1st daughter – 30+ (playing 35+) singing part only – good mezzo or soprano
CADENCE – 2nd daughter – 25+ (playing 30+) comic part – above average mezzo
BELLA - 3rd daughter – 25+ (playing 25+) capable actress/singer with 1 solo.
GARY – 35+ ex psych patient and husband of Aria – capable actor/baritone.
SPENCER – 35+ promising actor and victim of Cadence – capable high baritone/tenor.
PUCK – 25+ Evil comical fast food addict, gamer and troublemaker. 1 song for actor who can
sing a bit. Male, but could be played by a female.
DOCTOR – Pivotal serious/villainous character, male or female, 40+ non singing role.
DOCTOR 2 – semi comical yet complicit foil for doctor 1 – male, 40+ non singing role.
GRANDPAPA- 60+ Likeable, kind, semi comical non singing role.
PRINCESS- 50+ Grandpapa's crazy/eccentric wife- non singing role.
There are other essential parts for singers and non singers. This includes songs that require 2
capable actors with average + vocals.
I AM DESTINY is in 4 distinct sections with some characters only in specific designated
scenes with 1 – 3 actors. However 1 scene in part 3 requires most of the cast.

While the cast are busy learning lines and rehearsing scenes, our dedicated volunteers are hard at work bringing the world of "The Importance of Being Earnest" to life which is written by Oscar Wilde, and directed by Pat Lovell. Here, one of our talented crew members carefully painting flowers for the garden scene props.
It's amazing how many hands, skills, and hours go into creating the perfect setting for an audience to enjoy. Productions like this are built by an army of creative people behind the scenes. We can't wait to show you the finished result.

AUDITION NOTICE – The Importance of Being Earnest.

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde is a brilliantly witty comedy that pokes fun at Victorian society’s obsession with marriage, status, and keeping up appearances.
The Maleny Players are now inviting anyone interested in being part of the production — on stage or behind the scenes — to come along to our play-reading audition.
Saturday 23 May – 2.00pm
Whether you’d like to act, help backstage, assist with costumes, set construction, lighting, sound, or front of house, we’d love to welcome you to the team. Come and enjoy the fun, laughter, and charm of this much-loved classic with a fresh modern touch.

Characters
Jack Worthing (Ernest) - A respectable gentleman with a double life, but with a playful side.
Algernon Moncrieff - Charming and witty. A master of social mischief.
Gwendolen Fairfax - Elegant, poised, and determined. She has very firm ideas about love.
Cecily Cardew- Youthful, imaginative, and romantic. Lives in her own delightful world of fantasy and diary entries.
Lady Bracknell -Formidable and commanding.
Miss Prism - Cecily’s governess. Proper and moral, with a slightly mysterious past.
Rev. Canon Chasuble - A well-meaning clergyman with a gentle charm and a fondness for Miss Prism.
Lane - Algernon’s impeccably composed manservant with a dry wit
Merriman-The butler at Jack’s country estate.

This new production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest brings a modern touch to the wit, charm, and satire audiences know and love — offering a lively and contemporary spin on this iconic comedy.
We’re looking for people to be part of the journey, both on and off stage. Whether your interest lies in acting, backstage, costumes, set construction, props, lighting, sound, or front of house, there’s a role for you.

The Importance of Being Earnest directed by Pat Lovell is about to bring a modern touch to our theatre. With the preoccupation of marriage, social status, and appearances that audiences know and love, this production is offering a lively and contemporary spin on this iconic comedy. We would love you to be part of it! Whether your passion is acting, backstage, costumes, set building, props, lighting, sound, front of house, or simply being part of a creative team, there’s a place for you in this production.

A Wonderful End to Tiny Beautiful Things

Our season of Tiny Beautiful Things has now come to a close, and what a beautiful journey it has been. The final performance ended with a standing ovation, a fitting tribute to a production that touched so many hearts.

A huge thank you to our talented cast, dedicated crew, and to our wonderful director Kathryn Barnes for guiding this moving production with such insight and care.

Most of all, thank you to the incredible audiences who came along and shared this special experience with us.

Our raffle was also drawn at the final performance, and congratulations to Lisa from Maleny, the lucky winner.

Thank you for supporting Maleny Players and live community theatre. We look forward to seeing you at our next production!

Final performances of Tiny Beautiful Things adapted by Nia Vardalos from the book by Cheryl Strayed — a moving production brought to life under the direction of Kathryn Barnes.
As our final three performances come to a close, we would like to acknowledge the extraordinary work of the director, Kathryn Barnes. With sensitivity, insight and a deep understanding of the heart of this play, Kathryn guided the cast in bringing these deeply personal “Dear Sugar” letters to life. Her thoughtful direction helped create a production that was honest, moving, often funny, and profoundly human.
Audiences have been touched by the stories shared on stage, and that connection is a testament to Kathryn’s vision and care throughout the rehearsal process.
