The annual Maleny Show, since it was first staged in 1923, is a highlight of community activity, attracting interest from near and far. Old records of the Maleny Show Society give a fascinating picture of its hard work in making the Showgrounds and the Show a vital force within the Maleny and district communities. Photograph taken from behind the old butter factory looking south-west with Obi Obi Creek at bottom right.

ANZAC Biscuits: A Sweet Classic – There is nothing so Australian as the ANZAC biscuit and most families have their own recipe handed down through the generations. Based on a Scottish recipe, the 'Soldiers' Biscuits' were baked and sold to raise funds and were often sent in care packages to the troops overseas. (Credit: RSL anzacspirit.com.au)

A SPRIG OF ROSEMARY. Tradition has it that a wounded digger brought home a small rosemary bush from ANZAC Cove. Cuttings from the original plant were propagated in nurseries all over Australia, and sprigs of rosemary are worn to this day by attendees at ANZAC Day ceremonies. (Source: RSL Queensland)

The Maleny Cultural & Historical Society's showing of 'Bullocky Days' was well received by 135 attendees over three screenings. Before Bill Hankinson died, he was interviewed about his recollections of his father's and grandfather's time as teamsters based in the Maleny region before World War II. The Historical Society has preserved an important part of our region's history. Patrons also enjoyed a sociable wine and cheese afternoon.

Our blacksmiths are not only proudly showing off themselves, but possibly more importantly, their refreshed sign lovingly restored by a couple of our woodies. Thanks guys for giving it, and us, an update. 🎨

Some of our Maleny Historical Society members remember seeing this poster/banner in their Maleny classrooms in the 1950s and 1960s. One person recalls their class reciting the Good Manners Guide. Do you recall seeing this at school during the 1970s or 80s? You can see this poster/banner at the Historical Society.

Maps of Australia. Before the British arrived, this continent was made up of regions of distinct Aboriginal language and cultural groups. Following maps show British colonial divisions of the Australian continent. At that time, Australia consisted of self-governing colonies that were subject to the British Parliament. Early governors ruled by martial law. Federation of the Australian states didn't occur until 1 January 1901. Another map should be added: between 1863 and 1911, the Northern Territory was part of South Australia.
