Meet our new committee for 2026-27. The Historical Society had a successful 2025-26, building on previous years. The committee has been dedicated in preserving our region's history and it has also overseen an upgrade in facilities. Our new modern kitchen is now ready for hire to support functions held at the Village. We continue to grow and there is an exciting new project being planned. More information to come.

The annual Maleny Show, since it was first staged in 1923, is a highlight of community activity, attracting interest from near and far. Old records of the Maleny Show Society give a fascinating picture of its hard work in making the Showgrounds and the Show a vital force within the Maleny and district communities. ANZAC Biscuits: A Sweet Classic – There is nothing so Australian as the ANZAC biscuit and most families have their own recipe handed down through the generations. Based on a Scottish recipe, the 'Soldiers' Biscuits' were baked and sold to raise funds and were often sent in care packages to the troops overseas. (Credit: RSL anzacspirit.com.au)

A SPRIG OF ROSEMARY. Tradition has it that a wounded digger brought home a small rosemary bush from ANZAC Cove. Cuttings from the original plant were propagated in nurseries all over Australia, and sprigs of rosemary are worn to this day by attendees at ANZAC Day ceremonies. (Source: RSL Queensland)

The Maleny Cultural & Historical Society's showing of 'Bullocky Days' was well received by 135 attendees over three screenings. Before Bill Hankinson died, he was interviewed about his recollections of his father's and grandfather's time as teamsters based in the Maleny region before World War II. The Historical Society has preserved an important part of our region's history. Patrons also enjoyed a sociable w**e and cheese afternoon.
