Electric Ants have been found in the Atherton Tablelands. Flooding as well as moving soil, vegetation and pot plants can spread the ants across the landscape.

You can help Biosecurity QLD know where they are and arenโ€™t by registering for a free yard check.

I had one done - no electric ants thankfully - and they gave me a species list of all the ants they found at my place, which I thought was pretty cool.

Yard checks involve laying out sausage lures to attract ants, leaving them out for an hour or so and then collecting them for identification. They donโ€™t use any chemicals to lure the ants - just plain sausage.

This is just one small way we can assist in helping keep this tiny but dangerous pest out of our backyard.

Electric ants are tiny but dangerous. ๐Ÿœ

They sting, harm pets and threaten our native wildlife in Far North Queensland.

Register online for a free electric ant yard check and help protect your home and community ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://brnw.ch/21x11xI

Every check helps stop the spread.

Another fantastic project with the students at Malanda State School! ๐ŸŒฑ

It was incredible to see so many parts of our community come together to make the day such a success. There were smiles everywhere, and the kids were curious, hardworking and full of enthusiasm. The weather was on our side too!

Thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy to help out ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป and big thanks to TREAT for the donation of the trees ๐ŸŒณ

With everything going on in the world at the moment, days like this are genuinely uplifting, soul-filling and leave you feeling hopeful for the future. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ

Amazing turnout for a windy, but NOT WET Sunday morning! ๐Ÿ’š Thank you for all the crossed fingers ๐Ÿคž yesterday, as the rain held off for us this morning to allow us to get our work done.

A big thank you to all the amazing volunteers from Malanda State School and the Malanda SS P&C who showed up and put in so much effort today. Your hard work has made a massive difference in getting the site ready for this weekโ€™s planting ๐ŸŒฑ

And a very special shoutout to the kidsโ€”you were all brilliant! No hesitation, no complaints, just straight into the mud and hard work. Your energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to get your hands dirty is truly inspiring. The future of our environment is in great hands ๐Ÿ™Œ

Weโ€™re so grateful for this wonderful community effort ๐Ÿ’š

Did you know electric ants have been found at multiple locations in the Atherton Tablelands?

Biosecurity QLD can check if you have electric ants on your property for free. It is a non invasive inspection where they lay out lures around your property to attract ants and then collect them all and take them back to the lab to identify them. Even if your property is in the clear, they provide you a list of ants on your place which I thought was pretty cool!

Contact Biosecurity Queensland for your free yard check today.

A HUGE (and very belated) shout-out to Peter and the team at ETS Infrastructure Management for generously donating mulch to Malanda Landcare for the Malanda State School Legacy Tree Planting earlier this year. And another big thank you to Principal Mark Allen for helping create such a meaningful, hands-on activity for the students.

Weโ€™d also like to celebrate the fantastic students from Malanda State High School, who, supported by Mr Catalano, have put in an amazing effort this year mulching the young trees. It was a genuinely soul-filling community activity, and the beautiful growth of the trees shows just how worthwhile it was. Theyโ€™re already looking great and will be even more stunning in the years to come.

If you havenโ€™t visited the planting at Dungavel Park, we highly recommend popping down for a look.

Meanwhile, Malanda Landcare volunteers have also been working hard to remove weeds along the southern end of Dungavel Park, between the Kindy and the tennis courts.

Keep an eye out for our next working beeโ€”everyoneโ€™s welcome to join in and be part of the action! ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ
