Malanda Landcarers and friends come along to the next working bee on Tuesday 13th October 2026 at Dungavel Park Malanda.
We start at 9am and work removing w**ds on the bank of the North Johnstone River for about 2 hours. Bring along your hat, gloves and water. It is a great project.

🌿 Great things are growing at MUJCLA! 🌿

This week, the Malanda and Upper Johnstone Catchment Landcare Association planning group came together to talk all things happening soon, including upcoming events and activities.

We were delighted to welcome Ngadjon Choorechillum to the meeting and look forward to working together to create some exciting opportunities for our community.

Do you have remnant or good quality native regrowth vegetation 🌳 on your property, but have trouble with w**ds or pests (eg, pigs 🐖)

🌿 WE STILL HAVE GRANT OPPORTUNITIES 🌿
Funding is available through Terrain NRM’s 'Green Connections' project for landholders or groups to manage threats to native vegetation on private land in the Wet Tropics region.

Eligible projects will include w**d and pest management where it helps to improve the condition of remnant or regrowth native vegetation.

Projects in strategic locations - for example adjoining protected areas or areas providing important connectivity across the landscape - will be prioritised.

This time we’ll be planting trees and Lomandra, along with our usual w**ding activities to help keep the site thriving.

Please bring along any tools you have for digging holes, plus water and a hat.

Electric Ants have been found in the Atherton Tablelands. Flooding as well as moving soil, vegetation and pot plants can spread the ants across the landscape.

You can help Biosecurity QLD know where they are and aren’t by registering for a free yard check.

I had one done - no electric ants thankfully - and they gave me a species list of all the ants they found at my place, which I thought was pretty cool.

Yard checks involve laying out sausage lures to attract ants, leaving them out for an hour or so and then collecting them for identification.They don’t use any chemicals to lure the ants - just plain sausage.

This is just one small way we can assist in helping keep this tiny but dangerous pest out of our backyard.

Another fantastic project with the students at Malanda State School! 🌱

It was incredible to see so many parts of our community come together to make the day such a success. There were smiles everywhere, and the kids were curious, hardworking and full of enthusiasm. The weather was on our side too!

With everything going on in the world at the moment, days like this are genuinely uplifting, soul-filling and leave you feeling hopeful for the future. 🌱🌱🌱

Amazing turnout for a windy, but NOT WET Sunday morning! 💚 Thank you for all the crossed fingers 🤞 yesterday, as the rain held off for us this morning to allow us to get our work done.

A big thank you to all the amazing volunteers from Malanda State School and the Malanda SS P&C who showed up and put in so much effort today. Your hard work has made a massive difference in getting the site ready for this week’s planting 🌱

And a very special shoutout to the kids—you were all brilliant! No hesitation, no complaints, just straight into the mud and hard work. Your energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to get your hands dirty is truly inspiring. The future of our environment is in great hands 🙌
