Destiny and Shantaishe are now certified Open Water divers! 🌊🤿🐠

Even though the wind didn’t want to cooperate 💨🌊, that didn’t stop Francis getting in and teaching the participants about camera work.

The ladies still got hands-on experience learning how to use the TG6 cameras 📸 in the pool, learning coral surveying techniques and monitoring skills as well as building confidence along the way 💪🏿. Sometimes the conditions aren’t perfect, but the learning continues.

Well done to the ladies for powering through👏🏿✨
Fingers crossed the winds calm down enough to take these skills to the open water. 🤞🏿

🚶🏿‍♀️Forts Walk track was also a great chance to practice and improve their GPS skills and spot their first koalas in the wild 🐨. How exciting!

🌊✨ Day 1 – Sea Women Great Barrier Reef Program 2026
And on Day 2… their very first ocean dives! 🌊🔥

What an incredible start! Yesterday was the first day of our 2026 program. Destiny and Shantaishe have officially begun their Open Water Dive course with Pleasure Divers Magnetic Island 🤿

This program is extra special 💛 it’s the first to be lead by Indigenous women, Francis and Olivia, who were both participants in the very first Sea Women Great Barrier Reef program back in 2023 🌺✨

Over the next two weeks, Francis and Olivia will be taking the ladies through coral ID, reef surveying, and expanding their Sea Country knowledge 🐚🐠 The training is being delivered on Wulgurukaba Country, at Yunbenun (Magnetic Island).

This is just the beginning… stay tuned for the adventure ahead! 🌊🔥
