🥏✨ Ultimate Frisbee… but make it GLOW! ✨🥏

This week the Venturers took Ultimate Frisbee to a whole new level… by turning the entire game GLOW IN THE DARK! 🌙💡

The field was marked out with glow sticks, the frisbee was covered in glow sticks so it could actually be seen flying through the darkness, and each team had their own colour of glow sticks so they could tell their teammates apart.

The Venturers also got creative and decorated themselves with glow sticks… and honestly, I think that might have been the highlight of the night! 😂🌈

With only glowing colours to identify who was on which team, things got a little chaotic, a lot of fun, and surprisingly competitive!

🥏⚡ The game was incredibly close, with both teams giving it everything they had.

Who knew Ultimate Frisbee could be part sport, part strategy and part glow-stick fashion show?! 😂✨

🔥👨‍🍳 Mystery Ingredient Cooking Night! 👩‍🍳🔥

Tonight our Scouts put their cooking skills, creativity and teamwork to the test with a Mystery Ingredient Cooking Challenge!

Each Scout brought along one or two ingredients, which were all thrown into the mystery ingredient pool. The ingredients were then divided between our two patrols, who had to inspect their haul, put their thinking caps on and come up with a menu they could cook over the fire! 🔥

There was plenty of creative thinking, a few interesting ingredient combinations and some serious camp-cooking skills on display.

🍝 Tonight’s menu included:
• Spaghetti Bolognese
• Marshmallow Dumplings
• Marshmallow Pizza
• Chicken, Rice & Tortillas
• Strawberries & Nutella
• Pancakes & Honey

From savoury meals to some very sweet creations, the Scouts showed that you don’t need a fully stocked kitchen to create something delicious. You just need a handful of ingredients, a fire and a good dose of teamwork! 😋🔥

Well done Scouts! We think there might be a few future camp chefs in the making! 👨‍🍳🏕️

🔬🌈 Seeds of Science Night! 🌈🔬

Our Scouts had an awesome night celebrating Science Week with a whole lot of experiments, plenty of fun and just a little bit of mess! 🧪😄

They discovered that science can be pretty spectacular when you get to make it happen yourself!

🌈 Rainbow Magic: Using food dye, water, folded paper towel and plastic cups, they created their very own rainbow.

🐘💥 Elephant Toothpaste: Hydrogen peroxide, yeast, water, dishwashing liquid and food dye came together to create a foamy eruption that was definitely a favourite!

💨 Making Smoke: The Scouts built their own smoke machine using incense, a cardboard shoebox, a plastic bag and an impressive amount of masking tape to keep everything sealed. Who knew so much tape was required for science?! 😂

🎈🔥 Balloon Science: They discovered that a match under a normal balloon makes for a very quick POP! But add some water inside the balloon and the story changes. The water absorbs the heat, allowing the balloon to withstand the flame and helping to put the match out. Science is pretty clever!

🥣 Oobleck: And of course, we couldn’t forget the Scouts’ favourite, cornflour and water oobleck! Is it a liquid? Is it a solid? It’s a little bit of both and a whole lot of fun!

What a fantastic night of hands-on science, curiosity and discovery. The activities were so well organised and the Scouts had an absolute ball learning how things work. 🧪🔍👏

A huge thank you to everyone who helped put together such a fun and educational night. Science Week definitely went out with a bang… and a rainbow… and a bucket of oobleck! 🌈💥🥣

🔧🚗 Learning skills that could save the day!

Last night our Venturers got their hands dirty with a mechanics and car maintenance night! 🛠️

They learnt some really practical skills, including:
🚙 How to safely change a tyre
💧 How to check the water/coolant
🛢️ How to check the oil
🔍 Some basic things to look for when buying a car
⚙️ And a few of those handy things every driver should know before hitting the road!

A huge THANK YOU to local mechanic Justin for giving up his time to come along and teach the Venturers. Having someone with real-world experience share their knowledge makes these nights so valuable.

Scouts and Venturers isn’t just about camping and adventure. It’s about giving young people the skills, confidence and independence they need for life.

And hopefully next time someone gets a flat tyre, they won’t be standing beside the car staring at it wondering what happens next! 😂🔧

🏆❄️ STATE RALLY SUCCESS FOR OUR SCOUTS! ❄️🏆

What an incredible weekend for our Patrol of 7 Scouts at NSW State Rally at Cataract Scout Park! ⚜️

Our Scouts competed as “The Abominable Slowmen” 🏔️⛄ and fully embraced the theme by dressing up as Olaf from Frozen. Because apparently you can’t take on a serious Scout competition without a little snowman energy! 😂❄️

State Rally is a huge competition camp, with around 250 patrols from across New South Wales coming together to test their Scouting skills.

Throughout the weekend, each patrol hiked around Cataract Scout Park, tackling a huge range of activities and challenges to earn points. They took on:

🦊 Flying fox
🧗 Abseiling
🏹 Archery
🧩 Problem-solving challenges
🤝 Teamwork activities
📣 Communication challenges
🧭 Navigation and basic Scouting skills
💡 And plenty of other challenges that tested their initiative and adaptability.

And our Abominable Slowmen absolutely smashed it! 💪

🥇 1st Patrol in North Coast Region!
🏅 18th overall in the whole of NSW!

Out of around 250 patrols, finishing 18th is an absolutely fantastic achievement, and coming 1st in our Region makes it even more special. 🎉

What makes us most proud, though, is seeing the Scouts put all those skills they’ve learnt at Tuesday night meetings and camps into practice. They worked together, communicated, problem-solved, supported each other and kept going when the challenges got tough.

And of course, they did it all while looking like seven wandering Olafs! ⛄😂

A huge congratulations to The Abominable Slowmen. What an adventure and what an achievement! ⚜️💙

🚒 A night at Bowraville Fire & Rescue! 👩‍🚒🔥

Last night our Scouts had an action-packed visit to the Bowraville Fire & Rescue station, where they got to see just how much more there is to being a firefighter than simply putting out fires!

The Scouts learned about the incredible range of rescue equipment used by Fire & Rescue teams, as well as their important role as first responders and ambulance officers until an ambulance arrives.

And of course, learning about the gear is one thing… getting to try it out is a whole lot more fun! 😍

The Scouts got to:
👩‍🚒 Try on the firefighting uniforms
💦 Roll out the hoses
🚒 Learn about the rescue equipment
🔥 And even have a go at using the hose themselves!

A very special part of the evening was meeting Joe Cheeseman, who is something of a legend in our Scout Group! Joe has received all three Peak Scouting Awards, and his name proudly sits on our Group’s Honour Roll. It was fantastic for our Scouts to meet someone who has achieved so much through Scouting and hear a little about his journey.

A huge THANK YOU to the Bowraville Fire & Rescue team for welcoming our Scouts, sharing your knowledge and giving them such a hands-on experience.

Nights like this are what Scouting is all about: learning new skills, meeting inspiring people and having a go! ⚜️🚒💦
