🌏 World Environment Day 🌿

Today we’re celebrating one of the values that sits at the heart of Scouting: caring for our environment.

One of our Scouts is currently working towards a Special Interest Area project focused on helping keep our local environment clean. Inspired by Clean Up Australia Day, she chose to dedicate her project to collecting rubbish in and around our rivers and waterways.

As part of her project, she is completing eight hours of community service, helping to remove litter and protect local habitats. It’s a wonderful example of a young person identifying a need in the community and taking action to make a difference.

Scouts learn practical skills, develop leadership, and gain confidence through real-world projects that contribute to their communities. We’re proud to see our young people stepping up to care for the environment and help preserve the beautiful natural spaces we all enjoy.

This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating the Scouts who are making a difference, one piece of rubbish at a time. 🌱💚

Keep up the great work. We can’t wait to see your project progress!

Knots, lashings, and a whole lot of fun! 🪢⚜️

This week our Scouts were brushing up on their knot-tying and lashing skills as they worked together to build a camp wash station. From square lashings to clove hitches, everyone had the chance to put their pioneering knowledge into practice and see how these traditional Scouting skills can be used in the real world.

But the highlight of the night wasn’t the wash station…

It was making GOOP! 🤣

Instead of washing up, the Scouts discovered the strange and fascinating world of cornflour and water. The mysterious mixture was poured into the washing-up bowls, creating plenty of laughs as it behaved like both a liquid and a solid at the same time. Hands were slapped, fingers were poked, and science took over the evening!

A great night of learning, teamwork, problem-solving, and getting just a little bit messy.

What a fantastic weekend at Region Rally! 🤠🏕️

Nambucca Valley Scout Group had two patrols competing against Scouts from across the North Coast Region in a huge range of challenges including first aid, archery, mountain biking, shelter building, pioneering, the high ropes course and much more.

We are incredibly proud of all our Scouts for their teamwork, determination and positive attitude throughout the weekend. A special congratulations goes to the Yellowstone Rangers, who achieved an outstanding result, placing 1st overall in the entire North Coast Region! 🏆🎉

The weekend wasn’t just about competing. Our Venturers, Leaders and parent helpers also worked hard to run one of the activity bases, “I’ve Been Through the Desert on a Horse with No Name”, a Wild West themed high ropes challenge that saw participants navigating their way through the desert (the high ropes course) without getting caught in the rain (wet sponges that the Venturers catapulted or threw at the Scouts as the crossed the desert). It was a huge success and plenty of fun for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers who gave up their weekend to support the event and help make it such a memorable experience for our young people.

Congratulations to all of our Scouts on an amazing weekend of adventure, challenge and achievement. We couldn’t be prouder! 💚⚜️

Today on Sorry Day, we acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families, communities and Country.

We remember the children who were placed in institutions such as Kinchela Boys Home, Coota Girls Home, Bomaderry Children’s Home and many other places far away from the people and places they loved.

We honour those who never made it home, and we acknowledge the survivors, families and communities who continue to carry the trauma and pain caused by these policies.

Sorry Day is a time for reflection, truth telling and healing. We stand in remembrance of the Stolen Generations and recognise the strength, resilience and culture of First Nations peoples that continues to endure.

Today is National Sorry Day.

Today, we acknowledge the history, pain, and resilience of the Stolen Generations and continue our commitment to creating a fairer, more inclusive future for all.

The Venturers have been hard at work getting ready for Region Rally this weekend!

This week was all about testing their engineering skills as they built and trialled their very own catapults. There were flying yellow buckets through the air, making adjustments to lashings, and a few “near misses” along the way! 🚀

The crew also started painting their Wild West themed photo booth, which is already looking fantastic and will be the perfect backdrop for some fun rally memories. 🤠🐴🌵

We can’t wait to see all their hard work come together this weekend at Region Rally!

This National Volunteer Week we want to say a huge THANK YOU to the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make Nambucca Valley Scout Group the amazing group it is. 🌟

From planning adventurous nights, camps and activities, to fundraising, administration, maintenance, transport, paperwork, cooking sausages, setting up gear and everything in between… our Scout group simply wouldn’t exist without the generosity of our volunteers.

Not everyone made it into the photos because some of our volunteers are wonderfully sneaky at avoiding the camera 📸 but we appreciate every single person who gives their time to support our young people. That includes all of the parents and families who volunteer on weeknights, help at camps, lend a hand with fundraising or jump in whenever needed.

A special mention to our dedicated Leaders Jeremy, Kim, Simone M, Simone B and Tyrone for the time, energy and care you pour into our Scouts each and every week. 👏

A huge thank you also to:
⭐ Grant, our Treasurer
⭐ Bec, our amazing Fundraising Coordinator, and Phil
⭐ Tanya, our Chairperson
⭐ Dereck, who has been such a wonderful supporter of our Scout Group over the past few years

Your support helps create opportunities, adventures, friendships and lifelong memories for our young people.

Thank you for everything you do for Nambucca Valley Scout Group. 💚

Another action-packed night at Scouts this week! 🏕️🩹🪢

Our Scouts put their skills to the test with shelter building, knot tying and responding to first aid emergency scenarios. From creating sturdy shelters to practising important emergency response skills, everyone got hands-on experience while working together as a team.

We also put their memories to the challenge with a game of Kim’s Game, where Scouts had just seconds to memorise a collection of lightweight camping items before they disappeared under the tarp again! 👀⛺

A great night full of learning, teamwork, problem solving and plenty of fun along the way!
