☕ Time for Tea, Time to Care 💚

To recognise Carers Week, NV College is hosting a dementia information session for family carers and support workers who care for people living with dementia.

Our trainer, 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗻, 2024 Trainer of the Year, will share practical support strategies to help promote independence and wellbeing for your family members or clients.

You’ll also hear about support available for family carers.

📍 Tuesday 20 October | 34 Moonee St, Coffs Harbour
📍 Wednesday 21 October | 29 Cooper St, Macksville
🕚 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm (both days)

🫖 Enjoy a cuppa and a treat for a good cause. We suggest a donation of $5 for family carers or $10 for professional carers, plus a gold coin for tea or coffee and a treat. All funds raised go directly to Dementia Australia.

📋 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗻𝘆, our Senior Administration and Finance Officer, is the reason our classes run so smoothly. She makes sure everything is prepared well ahead of time and that student payments are processed promptly.

🌟 Great training starts with great trainers 🌟

We love hearing from our students! 🙌 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗻, who is studying CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support 📚, shared this feedback about his trainer and assessor, 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗶:

💬 "I could not be happier with Mili being my trainer. She has been the best trainer and has always been so committed to ensuring that our learning is at the heart of everything. She has an extraordinary knowledge of the disability and aged care sectors. Mili has been so professional throughout the entire process, and also made our learning fun with laughs and the odd joke to maintain an engaging environment for us all! Walk a mile in their shoes (or at least in this case down the street)

Our CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support students recently took their learning outside the classroom with a practical mobility activity.

Working in pairs, students supported a partner who was using either a standard walking frame, a 4 wheel walking frame or wearing a walking belt as part of a simulated scenario. Some pairs used the lift from our second-floor classroom, while others navigated the stairs. From there, they made their way out the front door, down the accessible ramp and along the footpath, then swapped roles for the walk back.

Along the way, students practised spotting hazards, communicating clearly, adjusting their pace and positioning, and supporting their partner to move safely. Taking a turn in both roles also gave everyone a sense of what it feels like to be the person being supported. Students chose the safest option for the person they're supporting, which is exactly the judgement the activity was building.

CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is nationally recognised training. Eligibility, course availability and work placement requirements apply.
