Our CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support students at Macksville had the privilege of learning from a very special guest speaker, ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ฒ, who came to NV College to share her experience of living with a disability. ๐ฃ๏ธโจ
๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ฒ lives with dystonia, a neurological disorder that causes uncontrollable, involuntary muscle contractions that affect her movement and speech.

Joined by her support worker, Margie spoke about the communication strategies that work for her, assistive devices, and why truly person-centred support is never one-size-fits-all. ๐ฌ๐ค
Itโs a powerful reminder for future support workers to ๐น๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐๐ธ ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐บ๐ฒ โ and to see the personโs abilities before their disability. ๐
A huge thank you to ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ฒ for so generously sharing her experience and helping shape the support workers of the future. ๐๐
