⭐WORKSHOP PROGRAM WEEK 2⭐

Hi everyone, Tash, again for the weekly workshop update for Crossroad Arts.

Wearable Art:
I worked on my new cowboy flag for my LOOSE ENDS costume. Shae modeled her mask and she reminded me of a queen. 😄😁

For Art Sake:
We got to get our hands dirty making clay bowls. We put water and clay together to make a clay glue and squashed it all together to make our bowl. It was lots of fun and messy today with Hannah 👍🤗

Performance in the Gallery:
We got into a few small groups and created a few performances inspired by the current exhibition on display by Brian Robibnson at Artspace. My performance was very slow imitating waves inspired by a marine art work. Kristy clapped us out! 😃👏

Stretchy Pants:
We did acting and used a few props such as balls, scarves, pool noodles, and we created a short performance using those props. We played an activity where one person had to steal a key from someone siting in a chair and whoever got the key had to make a sound. Erin clapped us out today. 😍😀

ROAR:
In today's workshop, we did lots of dancing and movement, we then did freeze and pose. For another part of the workshop we used Tony Moore's grid principle for making stories. For my group's performance, we used High Tea, Community and Princess as our themes for the story. Hayden clapped us out today! 😎🤩

🍄CROSSROAD ARTS LAUNCHES NEW T-SHIRTS 🍄

Crossroad Arts artist Tahlia Houston was commissioned by Crossroad Arts to create a new t-shirt design! We launched it at our annual national theatre making weekend C.R.U.S.H and they flew off the shelves! The stunning artwork is very Tahlia and we are so proud to wear our new shirts out and about!

"I came up with the design because I was always interested in fantasy world design and people, that express themselves in cosplay. I love drawing mushrooms and it's something that I enjoy creating. I added the quote "Don't dress to impress, dress to express" because it is something that I used to use at school and have also gone by those words to express myself as a person walking through the world." ✨ Crossroad Arts Artistic Director/CEO Autumn Skuthorpe joins the Matilda Awards as a regional judge.

✨ The Matilda Awards are Queensland's premier annual celebration recognizing excellence and bold creativity in cabaret, dance, theatre, and performance across the state.

✨ Autumn hopes to bring her experience in inclusive arts practice coupled with her regional perspective to the Matilda Awards. Autumn is proud to join a team of esteemed arts practitioners and arts leaders.

✨ "I am passionate about elevating and showcasing Queensland's artistic excellence and I have really enjoyed connecting more broadly with the sector across the state. Whilst I am proud to come from Mackay I am as deeply interested in celebrating the unique Queensland stories of our community. WELCOME TO OUR NEW JUDGES

Earlier this year, the Matilda Awards began recruiting regional judges as part of our commitment to better reflect and recognise theatre-making across the breadth of Queensland.

We’re very pleased to introduce one of our new regional judges, Autumn Skuthorpe. A Māori wahine (Te Arawa, Tūhoe, Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Porou), Autumn is a passionate advocate for regional arts and culture and for celebrating the voices and stories of her region.

Based on Yuwi Country, Mackay, Autumn is the Artistic Director / CEO of Crossroad Arts Inc and a leading voice in regional and inclusive arts practice. With almost two decades of experience as a performer, artist, producer, facilitator and arts leader, her work has championed inclusive contemporary performance, regional stories and greater opportunities for artists and communities.

Across her practice, Autumn has contributed to creative developments, co-produced new performance work, facilitated workshops and collaborated with artists to tell their own stories. She has also founded artist collectives, coordinated festivals and worked across music, film, visual arts and performance.

We’re delighted to welcome Autumn to the Matilda Awards judging panel as we continue to strengthen regional representation and recognise theatre-making across Queensland.
