What better way to celebrate Biodiversity Month than by planting another forest in Ipswich!
A huge thank you to the 58 volunteers who took part in our annual ex-TREE-vaganza event at Gladstone Road Reserve last Saturday.
As part of the event, we planted 1,510 seedlings, vcontributing to our goal to plant over 5,000 native seedlings across Ipswich this year.
We started the day with a Welcome to Country from Uncle Henry and Tiger from the Yugara Dancers, who also led the team in a warm up of 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' in Language! After a lovely morning of planting, attendees were then treated to an amazing wildlife show by the team from Wildlife Unleashed - where we met Rambo the red-tailed black cockatoo andSunny the albino carpet python, amongst other snakes, crocs, lizards!, A free BBQ lunch was also provided by the Lions Club of Ipswich/Redbank/Goodna to celebrate our hard work.
An extra special thank you to our local project partner Ipswich City Council, who helped make the day an unbe-LEAF-able success, Councillor Jim Madden for joining us, and to Chevron Australia for supporting the project!
Want to help these seedlings survive the toasty summer months? We’ll be hosting two maintenance days in the coming months where we'll be watering in these seedlings, and we’d love to see you there.
