Invisible Disabilities Week, 18–24 October, is an opportunity to recognise the many disabilities, conditions and challenges that may not be immediately apparent to others.

It’s also an important reminder that we never truly know what someone else may be navigating.

A huge congratulations to our two Admin Extraordinaires, Leah and Stacey, who are both celebrating 3 years with MADEC!

These two are the glue that holds our Head Office together! From keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes to being the friendly faces that welcome staff, participants and visitors, they do it all (and so much more!).

Their hard work, dedication and willingness to help never go unnoticed, and we honestly don't know what we'd do without them!

Take a walk through our John E. Smith Respite Home, a welcoming space where participants can feel comfortable, supported and at home while their families and carers have the opportunity to take a well-earned break.

For so many families, respite is about more than having somewhere to stay. It’s about knowing your loved one is somewhere familiar, safe and supported by people they know and trust.

If you’re passionate about working with young people and helping them build confidence, independence and practical life skills, this could be the role for you.

MADEC is looking for someone who can build genuine connections with young people, facilitate engaging programs and activities, and support young people to access education, employment, training and community opportunities.

Local conversations can lead to meaningful opportunities for regional communities. đź’™

MADEC recently welcomed Glen Kelly MP, Member for Mirani, to our Mackay office, where CEO Alice Evans and NDIS Manager Edmund McMahon discussed opportunities to strengthen disability, youth and community services across our region.

The conversation explored how local solutions could help people access the services, accommodation and opportunities they need closer to home, including future possibilities across Sarina and surrounding regional communities.
