Have you been lucky enough to try breakfast from Tambay Eats yet?

If not, you’re missing out.

Every Saturday, these two kitchen powerhouses bring a little Filipino-inspired magic to the River Wharves, serving up breakfasts packed with flavour, creativity and personality. From their famous pulled pork breaky sanga on Boat Ramp Bakehouse sourdough, to loaded avocado toast, shakshuka, breaky burgers and grab-and-go granola cups, there’s always something delicious coming out of their kitchen.

What we love most is that they’re never afraid to do things a little differently. Their food is bold, colourful and bursting with flavour but it’s also made with genuine passion and pride. Every dish has its own personality, just like the people creating it.

They’re also two of the hardest-working people you’ll meet. More often than not, you’ll find this dynamic duo sweating it out over hot coconut husk coals, cooking breakfast over live fire while somehow managing to keep the laughs flowing and the orders moving.

So next time you’re at the River Wharves Breakfast Collective do yourself a favour. Grab a coffee from Papa Ben’s, pick up some breakfast from Tambay Eats and find a spot overlooking the river. Slow down for a moment, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy everything that makes Saturday mornings at the River Wharves so special.

Great food, great people and one more reason why Saturday mornings at the River Wharves have become such a special part of the week.

When we say local, we mean local.

🥖 42km ~ the distance Boat Ramp Bakehouse sourdough and pastries travels from our bakehouse to the River Wharves. So fresh the windows on her van are still fogged up from the just baked pastries 😆

🥩 48km ~ the distance Bush Lemon Farm’s beef, lamb and goat travel from farm to market.

🌸 3.5km ~ the distance The Gerbera Connection flowers travel from the farm to the River Wharves.

In a world where so much of our food and produce travels hundreds or even thousands of kilometres before it reaches you, we’re proud to offer something different.

The sourdough is authentic and wasn’t baked in a factory warehouse. The meat is pastured raised and wasn’t shipped in from hundreds of kilometres away. And the flowers weren’t imported from another country or flown across Australia before ending up in a vase.

These are products grown, raised, baked and produced right here in our region by local people who care deeply about what they do.

It’s our food, our products, our passion ~ passed directly from our hands to yours.

Come down on a Saturday morning, meet the growers, meet the farmers, meet the baker and enjoy a slower, more connected way of shopping beside the beautiful Pioneer River.

The River Wharves Breakfast Collective - local, in the truest sense of the word. 🌾🥖🌸

How lovely is this! We love our flower grower and how generous she is with her knowledge and it looks like her love of flowers is infectious! Be sure to have a chat to Sonia about adding some blooms to your garden the next time you are getting your flowers 🌸

I've had a number of followers tell me recently that I've inspired them to start gardening. Hearing that means more to me than words can express.
It's about the joy of stepping outside and noticing the first bud opening. It's about getting your hands dirty, watching something grow, and feeling connected to the place you call home.
A garden has a way of slowing us down. It invites us to be present, to appreciate the seasons, the tiny victories, and the beauty that exists in ordinary moments.
What I hope to grow is a little more connection. To the earth beneath our feet, to our homes, to our communities, and perhaps even to ourselves.
If sharing my flower journey has encouraged someone to create a garden of their own, then that means more to me than I can put into words.

There’s something really special happening down at the River Wharves every Saturday morning and it’s not just the coffee, the flowers, the breakfast, or the fresh sourdough.

It’s the community that’s forming.

Each week, we watch people arrive for their morning yoga, grab a coffee, pick up a bunch of flowers, chat with local growers and producers, and spend time connecting with one another beside the beautiful Pioneer River.

Friendships are being formed in the breakfast line. Conversations are happening between people who may never have met otherwise. Customers are chatting with our flower grower, Sonia, learning about what she grows and even starting gardens of their own. Neighbours are catching up. New faces are becoming familiar ones.

We’re incredibly grateful to all of the vendors, customers, yoga participants, families and visitors who show up each week and make the River Wharves Breakfast Collective such a warm and welcoming place to be.

Community doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s certainly growing here.

It’s really lovely to see this portion of the river that was often underused or not being actively enjoyed by the public now thriving and becoming part of the Mackay community’s weekend ritual. We’re so happy to witness the connections being formed and to play a small part in bringing people together each Saturday morning.

See you back again next Saturday morning.
