We're looking for a local hairdresser or barber who would be willing to donate a few hours of their time to provide free haircuts at our upcoming Together for Shelter community event on Thursday 6 August.

A fresh haircut can do more than change someone's appearance – it can help restore confidence, dignity and self-esteem. For people experiencing hardship, it can make a meaningful difference when preparing for a job interview, accessing services or simply feeling more like themselves.

If you're a local hairdresser or barber who can lend a hand, please contact us!

Finding safe and stable housing isn't always straightforward, but you don't have to navigate it on your own.

Together for Shelter is a FREE community event, bringing together local organisations that can provide information, guidance and support for people experiencing housing challenges or looking to better understand their options.

You’ll have the opportunity to connect with representatives from:
➡️ St Vincent de Paul - Vinnies QLD
➡️ Department of Housing - Queensland Housing
➡️ Kalyan House - Kalyan Youth Service Inc
➡️ Footprints Community (HOWSS) - Footprints Community
➡️ Australian Street Aid - Chances House
➡️ Greater Whitsunday Communities - Greater Whitsunday Communities
➡️ Whitsunday Housing

Whether you're facing housing uncertainty now or simply want to know where to turn if circumstances change, this is a welcoming space to start the conversation.

No appointments, no pressure – just information, support and people who are here to help.

At Chances House we’re currently supporting a growing number of individuals in our community who are experiencing homelessness. To continue providing practical assistance & a bit of hope, we’re seeking donations of essential items such as:

Baked beans
Spaghetti
Cereal (we have lots of Weetabix & cornflakes)
Cordial
Chunky soups
Coffee
Wet/Dry Cat Food

Your generosity, whether through a product donation or financial support, can make a meaningful difference to those facing hardship right now.

Every contribution—big or small—helps 💙

💧 WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES LIFTED

Council has this morning lifted the 'conserve water' advice which had been in place as part of the recovery from Tropical Cyclone Koji.

The 'Do Not Consume' advice remains in place for Pinnacle and Gargett. Water testing locally shows supplies are clear, however final approval and clearance needs to be obtained from Queensland Health. That is expected later today.

Until that approval is received, the 'Do Not Consume' advice remains in place. The water trailer is still located at the Gargett Store for any residents needing drinking water supplies. It will be removed once the water supply is reinstated.

EARLIER
‼️Residents are encouraged to only use water for essential purposes over the next few days to conserve what is in the reservoir while water treatment plants are working harder than usual.

🌧️Heavy rain and river flooding have swept high volumes of debris into the raw water catchment, making the usual demand for drinking water more difficult to meet.

We are working closely with Queensland Health to monitor the situation and ensure drinking water continues to be of the highest quality. 💦

Key areas affected:
- Mackay township
- Northern Beaches
- Sarina township and Sarina Beaches
- Walkerston township
- Farleigh
- The Leap
- Seaforth
- Ball Bay
- Halliday Bay

Please avoid non-essential water use, such as washing vehicles, watering gardens or washing driveways, for the next few days 👍

134 Victoria Street

Opening Hours
