A wonderful community moment for Mackay VIEW on Friday, with Elizabeth, Jillian and Dawn attending the christening of the Women’s Surf Boat at The Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club

It was lovely to see tribute paid to VIEW, with our support proudly recognised on both the surf boat and the barricade. We are always proud to support local women, community connection and organisations that make a difference in Mackay.

Thank you to everyone involved in such a special occasion - and congratulations to all connected with the new Women’s Surf Boat. 🚣‍♀️💙

This is Christine, VIEW National Councillor from Queensland! 💜

Here are her thoughts on VIEW and what she would tell women thinking about joining.

“My most memorable moment is when I was at Officeworks earlier this year, with my home club, Hervey Bay VIEW, thanking Officeworks staff for their support of The Smith Family.

A lady approached and told us about how wonderful her experience had been for the past 5 years since her two children had gained sponsorships from The Smith Family.

She was in tears because of her gratitude for how much of a difference it had made to her children's life, particularly at school. She expressed how proud and relieved she is about her children's change in attitude, success and accomplishments. Both children are thriving, with one now school captain and gaining greatly improved results, and the younger one excitedly following the older one's example.

To women considering volunteering, I would tell them that I belong to VIEW and all our clubs support the work of The Smith Family. I’d shared some inspiring stories we hear about the difference Smith Family sponsorships make in the lives of students living with disadvantage.

I would invite women to come to a VIEW meeting or social event to meet our members, see some of what we do and learn more.

I’d also talk about how the fundraising VIEW members do helps raise money to cover student sponsorships, and also, the great fun VIEW members have volunteering. I’d emphasise the huge sense of achievement we all get as a result of our team and the results we see."

It’s National Volunteer Week (NVW) – Australia’s nationwide celebration of volunteering! 💜

For VIEW, this week is a time to say thank you to all our wonderful members for being part of our organisation and volunteering to support the work of The Smith Family.

VIEW is one of Australia’s largest and longest running women’s volunteer organisations. We have clubs across Australia, made up of like-minded women who volunteer their time to raise funds and awareness of The Smith Family while enriching the lives of others through friendships and social connection.

The theme of NVW this year is “Your Year to Volunteer”. This recognises everyone who gives their time, care and skills to support communities, while inviting more people to find a volunteer opportunity that feels right for them.

We are delighted that around 13,000 women across Australia have chosen to volunteer with VIEW!

If you are looking for a way to have fun, make friends and give back to your community while making a difference to children experiencing disadvantage, find out more about VIEW.
