We are our excited to announce that it is Landcare Week! Landcare has helped communities, farmers and Traditional Owners deliver practical solutions for healthier soils, cleaner waterways, stronger biodiversity and more resilient landscapes. Every day, Australians are caring for Country, restoring habitat, improving farm productivity and protecting the natural assets that underpin our economy and way of life. In our Canberra community, landcare volunteers are focused on habitat restoration, water retention, sustainable farming and increasing local biodiversity.

August is Platypus Month! Check out the events being held around Canberra and surrounds ⬇️

Did you know that August is Platypus month? ✨

Kick off the month with the fabulous launch event, the Platy Party! Held at Jerrabomberra Wetlands, the Platy Party is a free family-friendly event where you can dive into the world of our amazing aquatic mammals! 🎉

Activities include:

🪲 waterbug displays
🎨 face painting and kids' activities
🍵 community stalls and morning tea.

Important message on the importance of not disturbing habitat or taking wood ⚠️

Did you know 100-year-old mature trees, saplings and even dead trees and fallen branches provide essential habitat for native species? 🦎🐦🐝

There are many endangered species, birds, possums, lizards, pollinators and other insects who call Canberra’s trees their home. 🏠 As tempting as it may be, it's important not to cut or gather any living or fallen wood on public land or roadsides. All trees on public land are protected in the ACT and significant penalties apply.

Our teams respond to Fix My Street requests to conduct habitat inspections in tree hollows and collect branches that have fallen on roads and paths.

Instead of taking timber, source well-seasoned dry wood from a reputable firewood supplier.🪵 This wood burns for longer and produces less smoke - all while protecting local habitat 🌿

A really big thank you to all who came along for our March Clean Up Australia Day event, coordinated with Ginninderra Catchment Group.

All the signups and the volume and range of rubbish collected made for another successful team clean up of the lovely area we work, study and play on. 🙌🏽 🗑️ 🌱 🙏
