We have frogs coming out of our ears this month! Frog Walk & Talks, Frog Census training, frog photography night & more! The new microforest at Dunlop has flourished in its first year, so we’re having a spring clean on Sunday 13th Sep - come along for a relaxed morning of w**ding, mulching and a cuppa.

Our landcaring groups are ramping up for spring. Pop in, say hello, check out what they’re up to and have a go at caring for your local park or reserve.

Spring has sprung, and it’s Wattle Day! 💛

You can feel it, I can feel it, and the plants can feel it. Spring is here! Today we celebrate Australia's national floral emblem the Golden Wattle, and the acacias that brighten our landscapes signifying the end of winter.

Wattle Day is a reminder of the resilience, diversity and beauty found across our country. As the iconic yellow blooms signal the start of spring, they also encourage us to reflect on our connection to the land and what this next season will bring.

It’s National Biosecurity Week, (24-30 August). While there have been no detections of H5N1 bird flu yet in the ACT, you can help to be prepared.

Canberrans are encouraged to remain alert for signs of illness in birds including:
• difficulty standing, walking or flying
• breathing problems
• unusual head or neck posture
• a droopy appearance, or
• sudden death.

If you see sick or dead birds:
🚫 Avoid direct contact and keep pets away
📷 Record what you see and where
📞 Report immediately to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Reminder that cats born since 1 July 2022 must be contained, and it’s good practice to contain older cats too at this point, especially given our proximity to Gininderra Creek and surrounds.

National Biosecurity Week, 24-30 August 2026, highlights the importance of prevention, preparedness and early action. Working together across plant, animal, aquatic, marine and environmental biosecurity helps keep Australia safe from biosecurity threats.

Important message on the importance of not disturbing habitat or taking wood ⚠️

Did you know 100-year-old mature trees, saplings and even dead trees and fallen branches provide essential habitat for native species? 🦎🐦🐝

There are many endangered species, birds, possums, lizards, pollinators and other insects who call Canberra’s trees their home. 🏠 As tempting as it may be, it's important not to cut or gather any living or fallen wood on public land or roadsides. All trees on public land are protected in the ACT and significant penalties apply.

Our teams respond to Fix My Street requests to conduct habitat inspections in tree hollows and collect branches that have fallen on roads and paths.

Instead of taking timber, source well-seasoned dry wood from a reputable firewood supplier.🪵 This wood burns for longer and produces less smoke - all while protecting local habitat 🌿

If you see someone cutting or collecting wood, please report it to Access Canberra on 13 22 81.

A really big thank you to all who came along for our March Clean Up Australia Day event, coordinated with Ginninderra Catchment Group.

All the signups and the volume and range of rubbish collected made for another successful team clean up of the lovely area we work, study and play on. 🙌🏽 🗑️ 🌱 🙏
