Luddenham AH & I Show Society is saddened to share the passing of two of our members, Mr Rob Heffernan and Mr Jim Mason OAM.

Former President, honorary life member and Patron Rob Heffernan lost his battle with cancer last week. Rob dedicated more than 20yrs to the Luddenham Show in various capacities, stepping down as President at our AGM last month. Our deepest condolences extend to Rob's wife and honorary life member Deb and children, Tom and Georgia who are also valued members of our Show Society. A memorial will be held for Rob at the Centennial Winery in Bowral on 11 September at 12.30pm.

Member Jim Mason OAM, a familiar face in our Show Office and proud sponsor passed away earlier this week. Jim was involved in shows from a young age, competing in Penrith Show as a boy where he went on to serve on committee for more than 30yrs. Jim made valued contributions to the Luddenham Show Society and will be sadly missed by the broader show community. Our deepest condolences extend to Jim's wife Julia and children Cameron and Stephanie. We will share the details of Jim's funeral once they are available.

Our thoughts are with the Heffernan and Mason families at this difficult time.

As we continue to go through the archives, here are some snippets from the 1930s. In 1937-38, Australia had a population of 6.8mil, Don Bradman was the captain of the men's cricket team and the Luddenham Show Society had 90 members. During this time, Harry Sales was President of the Show Society - he would later be recognised in the naming of Sales Park which is less than 1km from the Showground. Whilst our membership has decreased over the years, many of our existing members are descendants of those listed below, including of Harry Sales

Did you know that there have been 120 editions of the Luddenham Annual Show? Below are copies of ads from some of the first Shows way back in the 1890s! Both the Show and our advertising looked different back then and over the next few weeks we will be posting some of our favourite pictures from the past. Send us a PM if you have any old photos from the Show, we would love to see them and share them with the Show community

This Saturday 20 June, AgShows NSW will be hosting their annual conference, Celebrating Ag Shows. The free online event starts at 12.30pm and includes a jam packed program of guest speakers, presentations, a debate and the prestigious AgShows NSW Awards. Our very own June has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Living Legend Award which will be announced just after 2pm. June has dedicated more than 70yrs to volunteering at the Luddenham Show, showing incredible commitment to our community. June's contributions cannot be measured but include co-founding the kitchen and Ladies Auxiliary, stewarding, judging, running the produce pavilion and organising the famous Luddenham Show Balls. June is a deserving finalist for the Award and regardless of the result, we all think you're a living legend!
