A massive thank you to all that dropped by the Loxton Community Futures pop up at the Loxton show over the weekend!

Drawn by Mayor Norton, we were pleased to announce Paul Rowe as the winner of the first prize and Mitch Neumann as the winner of the second prize 🏆

Thanks to everyone who dropped by, purchased raffle tickets or just donated, we raised close to $3000 of funds, getting us one step closer to the completion of the Alawoona Silos Project! 🥳

On Sunday the 25th of October, Loxton Community Futures invites our community to ask:

💡What do we want Loxton to be in 2040?

A day for community connection, exploration, visions and priorities. We’re looking for ideas, perspectives, experience, fresh thinking and people how genuinely care about their community and the direction of the town they live in.

Whether you’re a volunteer, business owner, community leader, student, retiree, farmer, parent… or someone who just lives in Loxton - come along and have your voice heard! You have a place in this conversation.

A massive thank you to all who attended our AGM on the weekend, it was a lovely Sunday afternoon spent celebrating all the LCFi have done over the past year and all the exciting projects that are to come in the year ahead of us 🎉

The numbers attending was an encouraging recognition and endoursement of what LCFi are trying to achieve in our community!

This day will be a celebration of all achievements over the past year, including kicking off the funding campaign for the Alawoona Silos, and a sneak peak at what is to come. Small towns in the Mallee don’t always get to choose how they are remembered, this is your chance to help create a landmark that is uniquely Alawoona.

This project is not just another painted grain silo, it’s something worth stopping for and a reason to support our local Riverland and Mallee towns. Featuring four designs commissioned by Heesco the project covers farming, railway heritage & football. There really is something to everyone!

But, they’re not on the silos yet & that’s where you come in… every donation gets these designs closer to towering over the highway for good. ❤️🌾

Kathy spoke with Greg about the plans for the project to honour Russell Ebert and the broader agricultural community, how the community has rallied behind the project, fundraising progress and what’s ahead.

What a great start!!! 👏🏼

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we’ve now raised $59,531 of our initial goal of $100,000. We are well on the way to bring this landmark project to life 🥳🥳

Over the past few months, we’ve seen a steady stream of support flow in. No matter the size, every single contribution is moving us closer to seeing artwork on the Alawoona silos.

A reminder of what we are building toward:
Alawoona is set to become the next stop on South Australia’s iconic Silo Art Trail. Positioned on the key route between Lameroo and Loxton, the artwork will celebrate the town’s farming and railway heritage and pay tribute to its most famous son, Magarey Medalist and Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert.

For the project, we have commissioned renowned silo artist Heesco, who you may know as the artist who completed the Karoonda Silo project back in 2019. The project is timed to be completed as Alawoona approaches the institute’s centenary in 2027.

Driven by the Alawoona Community Group and Loxton Futures incorporated l, this project promises to boost regional tourism, strengthen local identity and give travellers through the Mallee and Riverland a striking new reason to stop and visit.
