Start the new year with a clean and decluttered fridge, freezer and pantry with our top tips! 🧼🧽🧹
1) Declutter and purge old food by tossing or composting anything that has past its expiration date. Most products will last beyond their ‘best-before’ date if they are stored properly, but any foods marked with a ‘use-by’ date must be consumed before or on that date.
2) In the case of duplicate items, combine containers and toss one to keep your food storage area neat and tidy.
3) Do a stocktake of the items in your fridge, freezer and pantry. Create meals with what you already have to make more space and ensure it is used before it goes off.
4) Transfer any open food items into airtight jars and containers to increase the shelf life and prevent waste.
5) Donate any unwanted and unopened pantry items to community food relief services.
