There’s more to brightening up winter than just colour! Cold weather seems to heighten the fragrance of perfumed plants, and fortunately there are plenty of fragrant favourites that bloom in winter. For some great sweet-scented ideas, including some you may not have thought of, grab a copy of our June issue, out now!

Kitchen scraps can be fun to regrow 🌱 A few easy ones I’ve tried:
🧅 Green onions are one of the easiest if the roots are still attached.
🌿 Basil cuttings root nicely in water before moving to soil.
🧄 Garlic cloves can sprout when planted pointy side up.
🥔 Potatoes with eyes can turn into full plants with enough space.
🍍 Pineapple tops take patience, but they’re a fun experiment.
🥬 Lettuce bases may give you a little fresh regrowth.
I usually start these in pots so I can see what actually takes off.

Attention Northern Midlands farmers and producers – a local drumMUSTER collection is being held on 25 June 2026.

If you’ve got empty AgVet chemical drums sitting around the farm, this is a great opportunity to dispose of them safely and responsibly.

To participate, please ensure your eligible drums are triple-rinsed, clean, and ready for inspection.

If you have more than 100 drums, please register via the Agsafe website to help ensure a smooth and efficient inspection process.

Can’t make it on collection day? No problem. There are 30 permanent drumMUSTER collection sites across Tasmania that can accept your eligible drums year-round.
