A huge thank you to Narelle Fraser for being a guest speaker at Bendigo Toastmasters last night.
It was incredibly powerful to hear Narelle's journey, the challenges she has faced, and the vulnerability she was willing to share with us. Her honesty, courage, and authenticity left a lasting impact on everyone in the room.
What stood out was hearing how important Toastmasters was in her own development and the role it played in helping her become the speaker, advocate, and leader she is today.
It's a wonderful reminder that growth often begins with simply having the courage to step up and share our voice.
Thank you, Narelle, for your time, wisdom, and inspiration. Bendigo Toastmasters was privileged to have you with us.🙏✨️

Look who’s returning to Toastmasters this Monday to deliver a one off talk to our members and guests!!!👀
We are so excited to welcome back Narelle Fraser🎉
Narelle was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years, 15 of those as a Detective with squads including Homicide, R**e, S*x Crimes, Missing Persons & Child Exploitation, specialising in s*x offences & child abuse. She was involved in many high-profile criminal investigations.
In 2012 Narelle was diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) & was never able to return to Policing, however she overcame many adversities to become a mental health advocate, keynote speaker & host of her own true-crime podcast, ‘Narelle Fraser Interviews’.
Narelle has lectured in Investigative & Interviewer Techniques, Human Rights & Criminology @ Monash Uni & NMIT & is a policing & mental health commentator on all media platforms (including of late, cruise ships!). Lastly, a documentary is being released this year entitled ‘The Policewoman’ covering her extensive career.

It's always exciting to see a previous member use these skills and Thrive in their career!
If you've been thinking of checking out Toastmasters this could be a very special night to dip your toes in. Never any pressure to speak. Just showing up is already success✨️

After the Easter break🐰 Bendigo Toastmasters is back tomorrow night at The Long Gully Community Hall, kicking off at 7:30pm.
If you’ve ever thought about getting better at speaking, building confidence, or just meeting a solid group of people… this is your sign🙌
No pressure, no perfection just people having a crack and getting better each week.
Come along, bring a mate, or just rock up solo. We look forward to meeting you😊

🎤 Did You Know?
Many confident speakers you see today once felt nervous just introducing themselves in front of a group.
Confidence in speaking doesn’t come from talent alone... it grows through practice, encouragement, and supportive feedback.
That’s exactly what Bendigo Toastmasters is all about.
Our next meeting is this Monday, the 16th of March at 7:30pm at The Long Gully Community Hall.
If you’re curious about Toastmasters, feel free to come along and see what it’s all about. There’s absolutely no pressure to speak in fact many visitors simply come along to watch, listen, and experience a meeting first.

We were lucky to have Janine Wan, District Director for Toastmasters District 73, join us at our last get-together.
Janine supports Toastmasters clubs right across the district and works closely with leaders at every level to help people grow in confidence, leadership, and communication. Hearing her share her experience and perspective was incredibly valuable, and she brought such a calm, grounded presence to the room.
What stood out most wasn’t the title, but her genuine care for people and her belief in what Toastmasters can offer when it comes to personal growth and connection.
Thanks so much, Janine, for taking the time to be with us we really appreciated it.🙏

Bendigo Toastmasters is back for 2026🌟
We kick off tomorrow – Monday 19th Jan at the Long Gully Community Hall, starting at 7:30pm.
If public speaking, sharing your ideas, or even just speaking up in a room makes your heart race a little… this could be your courageous step for 2026.
Toastmasters isn’t about being perfect or polished. It’s about:
• building confidence (at your pace)
• finding your voice
• learning to communicate clearly and authentically
• and doing it in a supportive, non-judgemental space

Maybe one of your goals this year is to:
✔ feel more confident at work
✔ speak up in meetings
✔ back yourself socially
✔ stop avoiding situations where you might be seen
This is a practical, gentle way to work on that — with real skills that carry into everyday life.
No pressure to speak on your first night. You’re welcome to come along, observe, and see if it’s for you.
2026 doesn’t need a massive overhaul.
Sometimes it just needs one brave yes.

A big moment on the day was seeing 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 – 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗗𝗧𝗠) 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗲, which was great to witness.

Huge congratulations to Julie on achieving her Distinguished Toastmaster award.

This is a milestone built on dedication, countless hours of growth, supporting others, and continually stepping into leadership. Julie has shown what it looks like to stay committed, stretch yourself, and lift people around you along the way.

A huge thank you to Carolyn for delivering such a powerful and practical educational speech on how to confidently and effectively use the lectern 👏📚

Simple skills done well can make all the difference! Structure, presence, and intention. You broke it down beautifully and left us all feeling a little more confident 🙌

Our next session will feature a special Educational Segment: “Toastmasters Meeting Procedure” presented by Carolyn — walking us through the essentials of running a professional, engaging meeting (and what not to do at the lectern 😄).
