Zakat is a fundamental pillar of Islam and an act of worship that connects our faith with our responsibility towards others.

🌿 For the giver: Zakat purifies our wealth and hearts, helping us overcome greed, grow in gratitude and obedience to Allah, and seek barakah in what we have.

🤲 For those in need: Zakat provides support to those who are eligible, through the eight categories mentioned in the Qur’an (9:60).

🌍 For society: Zakat helps wealth circulate within the community, reduces hardship and inequality, strengthens social solidarity, and can help people move towards greater financial independence.

At its heart, Zakat is about worship, compassion and justice, reminding us that our wealth is an amanah from Allah and that those in need have rights within it. A system designed not only to support individuals, but to strengthen the entire Ummah.

Zakat al-Mal is an annual obligation of 2.5% on qualifying wealth that reaches nisab and completes one lunar year, and it is distributed to the eight Quranic categories.

Zakat al-Fitr is a fixed end-of-Ramadan obligation paid for every Muslim before the Eid prayer to purify fasting and feed the poor.

Sadaqah is voluntary charity with no fixed amount, time, or eligibility restrictions and may be given to a wide range of recipients and causes.

Zakat al-Mal is annual wealth purification, Zakat al-Fitr is Eid-related obligation, and Ṣadaqah is voluntary charity.

Sadaqah doesn’t diminish your wealth, it brings barakah into it. And when you give sincerely for the sake of Allah, He can multiply its reward in ways far beyond what we can see.

So don’t wait until you have more to give. Give what you can, and trust Allah to multiply it.

No. If your home is your primary residence, it is personal-use property and is not subject to Zakat, regardless of its market value, construction cost, or how much it has appreciated.

Zakat is levied on productive or surplus wealth, not on essential living needs. Housing, clothing, furniture, and personal transport all sit outside the calculation.
