What We Do. Future Hope Foundation Australia is a charitable not-for-profit organisation that provides relief through its Drop-In Day Care Centre for some of the most vulnerable homeless and orphaned children from the streets and slums of Dhaka in Bangladesh. Every night thousands of homeless children sleep alone on the streets of Dhaka and around the city’s main railway stations and bus terminals
. Many are ill, most suffer serious forms of exploitation and all are vulnerable. Future Hope works to change the lives of destitute children and help them to become independent, self-supporting members of society. We do this by implementing a unique transitioning model to place the most vulnerable at-risk orphaned and homeless children in a safe home with a carefully selected relative, guardian or other suitable caretakers and establishments, enabling a return to either their families where possible or other organisations as a means of ending their situation, essentially reversing the homeless cycle. Initially, our team of immobilizers and field officers work closely with the children and on a voluntary basis assist the most needy at our day care centre. The shelter provides a caring, secure and safe environment along with supervision by volunteer caretakers and cooks that attend to their immediate needs. The Day Care centre acts as a temporary refuge bringing immediate relief from the elements and the harsh homeless environment. Essentially a Drop-In centre where we provide food, fresh clothing, washing facilities and accommodation. We also offer support and advice while the children are in our care. Through our safe and caring premises along with our partner organisations, we are able to provide a transition point for the children between street and home. By way of case history, research, and information gathering from each child, we run background checks with local authorities and registration with police to trace family members, friends or relatives who are willing to take the children back home into long-term care or if not possible, finding other suitable establishments. Those that choose not to return know that we are there to support them in their time of need until they are ready. Once children are placed back into a suitable environment, through monitoring and auditing procedures, we continue to care for each child holistically through the provision of health care, education and emotional support. Our aim is for each child to grow and develop with the life skills required to become self-dependant and pursue their own future.
