A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
• Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
• Public health emergencies
• Biosecurity incidents
• Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.

In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

Today we recognise those who's duty it is to run towards danger when others are told to leave.

On International Firefighter Day, we thank our incredible CFA members and all of those who protect communities in times of crisis and every day in between.

Your courage, commitment and care don't go unnoticed.

CFA South West will be conducting a planned burn on Berrybank-Werneth Road and Foxhow-Rokewood Road at Duverney and Berrybank this week. 🚒

Traffic management will be in place, please allow extra travel time as some delays are expected. ⏳
Planned burns reduce fuel loads and help limit the intensity and spread of future grass and bushfires — they’re a key part of keeping our community safe. 🌾🔥

If you notice smoke and want to confirm whether it’s a planned burn, visit Planned Burning Victoria: https://plannedburns.ffm.vic.gov.au, Vic Emergency: www.emergency.vic.gov.au, or use the Vic Emergency app.

Thanks for your patience and support.

Seeing smoke?
There are a number of burns planned over the coming weeks which include road side burns and farmers doing stubble burns.

We're still in the Fire Danger Period so remember if you are planning to burn off you need to apply for a permit and advise authorities before lighting up.

ℹ️ℹ️ Stubble Burning ℹ️ℹ️

Farmers are being issued Schedule 3 Permit to conduct stubble burns in preparation for the next cropping season.

Smoke will be visible around the area for the coming few weeks from these burns.

We are still in the fire danger period which means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements.

If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted.
