🚗 With rain continuing across the state let this be your reminder to turn your headlights on when driving in wet conditions. 🌧️ Visibility can change quickly in rain, so make sure you're seen and stay safe on the roads. 💡🚙

Raise your hand if you could use some extra sunshine 🙋

The winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year, is nearly behind us. As we head into the depths of winter (thankfully with some more daylight), now is a great time to take stock around the house.

Here are five ways to stay on top of your home's fire safety:

🧺 Clean your dryer's lint filter after every load
🍳 Wipe away grease from grills, fans and cooking surfaces
🔌 Make sure your powerboards are not overloaded
🫸 Keep curtains, clothes and toys 1 metre from heaters
🛌 Don't leave electric blankets on for more than 30 minutes

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
• Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
• Public health emergencies
• Biosecurity incidents
• Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.

In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

Today we recognise those who's duty it is to run towards danger when others are told to leave.

On International Firefighter Day, we thank our incredible CFA members and all of those who protect communities in times of crisis and every day in between.

Your courage, commitment and care don't go unnoticed.
