This Harmony Week in Lismore, our CASPA community celebrated by coming together to share food and connection. Staff and young people from our onsite Tuckshop prepared and shared a variety of multicultural inspired cob loaves, celebrating different cultures while building their hospitality skills.

The Tuckshop is part of CASPA’s Education Program, operating one day a week as a public café at our Lismore site. Supported by educators, young people build practical hospitality skills that support their transition from education to independence and employment.

While Harmony Week is about celebration, it’s also a reminder of the ongoing work needed to challenge racism and create communities where everyone feels they belong. Belonging grows when we are all supported to contribute, connect and be seen for our strengths, regardless of our differences. 🧡

This International Women’s Day, CASPA celebrates the women who lead in our organisation with strength, compassion and courage. Every day, they show us what it means to uplift others, break down barriers and create pathways for the next generation of female leaders.

We asked four of these leaders, Naarah Rodwell, Peachy Tugano, Angela Bontea and Mickalena Hodges to share their reflections and advice for young women aspiring to lead. Read their responses here: https://caspa.org.au/caspa-stories/celebrating-our-female-leaders-this-international-womens-day

Many kinship carers step into the caring role without warning, opening their homes and hearts simply because family needs them.

Kinship carers deserve a village of support just as much as any foster carer: people to help with appointments, school runs, day‑to‑day challenges, or to offer a well‑earned break to reset and recharge.

Across NSW, there is a significant shortage of respite carers, the people who step in to give full‑time carers a breather and create that much‑needed village around every child and every caring family.

Even dedicating one weekend a month as a respite carer can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

Shared Lives training starts 17 February. Sign up now to support young people in care, and the family members who step up for them.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of a family in Mosman Park, WA. Our thoughts are with their loved ones, first responders, and the local communities affected by this devastating event.

Police have confirmed that this remains an active investigation, and we urge the community to avoid speculation and allow authorities to complete their work.

As an NDIS provider, disability advocate, and part of a broad community of carers, we acknowledge the difficult conversations this tragedy has brought to the surface. Every day across Australia, families and caregivers navigate complex systems while trying to access the support they need. These challenges are real, and their voices deserve to be heard.

While we do not yet know the circumstances surrounding this incident, the national discussion about the pressures faced by families raising children with complex disabilities is important. Many families experience gaps or delays in essential supports, and ensuring these systems are responsive and accessible must remain a priority.

Regardless of the outcome of any investigation, no family should struggle alone. Every child and every caregiver deserves timely, appropriate, and reliable support especially when challenges are relentless. CASPA remains committed to advocating for strong, accessible services and standing with families who need them most.

If you or someone you know needs support, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 13YARN on 13 92 76.

We’re incredibly grateful to Good Little Things for their generous donation of 101 back-to-school packs for children and young people in out‑of‑home care.

Each pack includes:
- a high-quality school bag

These packs are about more than school supplies. They’re about helping children and young people start the school year feeling prepared, confident and supported.

January 26 may be a public holiday, but it is not a day of celebration for everyone.

For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, it is a Day of Mourning, marking the impacts of colonisation and recognising the racism and injustice that continue today.

Today, we stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, acknowledging this country was never terra nullius, and honouring the strength, survival and resilience of the world's oldest living cultures.
