Our Leisure & Lifestyle staff and volunteers work with these residents through an evidence-based program that includes preparing meals and eating together, playing board games and listening to music, reminiscing, and simply having a laugh. Our allied health pain management initiative includes both individual and group sessions designed to gain improvements in general wellbeing through both physical participation and increased social interaction which is so important to wellness. Regular functions are a hallmark of life at QVCare, including the Indian Curry Night, Spring Brunch, and Friday Night functions which also involve residents of the Independent Living Units. The Queen Vic Way is the way we do things at QVCare. We show genuine respect and compassion for all our residents, and deliver progressive care for which we are all accountable. In everything we do, we live these values: Respect, Compassion, Accountability and being Progressive. The Queen Vic Way informs our connections among family, staff, volunteers, and suppliers, our many leisure and lifestyle options, our partnership with the University of Tasmania, the meals we prepare, and all the services we offer. Our volunteers are part of The Queen Vic Way. They drive our buses, read to residents, tell stories, run musical concerts, and help with providing support with activities. The benefits are mutual – they form friendships, share their skills, learn from residents - and are a special part of life at QVCare Village. QV Care is located at:

Happy National Volunteers Week 💙

This week, we celebrate the incredible people who give their time, care and compassion to make a difference in the lives of others. To every one of our amazing volunteers – thank you never feels like enough.

A special shoutout to Mark (and of course Munroe 🐾) for the joy, comfort and smiles you bring each time you visit. Your kindness, warmth and genuine connection with our residents are truly valued, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

If you’re visiting us this week and happen to see some of our wonderful volunteers, please join us in thanking them. A simple “hello” or “thank you” goes a long way in showing just how valued they are.

Volunteering is one of the greatest gifts a person can give the gift of time, presence and human connection. Whether it’s sharing a conversation, reading together, helping with activities, visiting with a therapy dog, or simply sitting with someone who needs company, even the smallest act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in a resident’s day.

If you feel a calling, no matter how big or small, to support our residents and become part of our community like Mark has, we would love to hear from you. 💙 6243 3100 or [email protected]

We truly couldn’t do it without you all 💫

It was a privilege to represent Queen Victoria Care at the Lindisfarne ANZAC Service this year. The occasion carried both professional and personal significance, reinforcing the deep connection between our organisation, our residents, and the broader community.

Seeing our residents present, many of whom carry their own histories of service or lived experience shaped by war, was particularly meaningful. It served as a reminder that remembrance is not abstract within aged care it is personal, lived, and ongoing.

Supporting our residents to engage in such commemorations is an extension of dignity, identity, and carr.

The service itself reflected a strong sense of community cohesion. The presence of local organisations, schools, veterans’ groups, and families highlighted the collective responsibility to remember and respect those who have served.

It was evident that ANZAC Day continues to hold an important place across generations, and that shared rituals such as this play a vital role in preserving that legacy.

A service will also be held at Queen Victoria Care today, providing an opportunity for our residents, staff and families to come together in remembrance. This ensures that those unable to attend community services can still participate in a meaningful and respectful commemoration within the comfort of their home.

The Lindisfarne service itself was conducted with dignity and respect, creating a space for quiet reflection, acknowledgement, and shared remembrance.

It reinforced the enduring significance of ANZAC Day and the importance of continuing to honour those who have served.

Lest we forget.

On the Ground with Our Team

Today I had the privilege of spending time on a buddy shift with one of our wonderful team members, Glenna, who plays a vital role in maintaining our beautiful gardens.

What struck me immediately is that this work is far more than just presentation it is about creating an environment that feels calm, familiar, and uplifting for our residents.

Our gardens are not a “nice to have”; they are an essential part of wellbeing. They invite connection, support reminiscence, encourage gentle movement, and provide moments of peace and joy.

Glenna’s dedication, pride, and consistency in her work ensure that these spaces are always welcoming and safe. It is physically demanding, often unseen work, yet its impact is felt every single day by residents, families, and staff alike.

Spending time alongside the team reinforces the importance of truly understanding the roles that underpin the experience we provide. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn, and I look forward to doing more of these shifts.

Thank you, Glenna, for the care you bring to your work.

It makes a meaningful difference.

As we approach the season of Easter, we take a moment to reflect on what this time truly represents.

We have enjoyed some early Easter celebrations across the home, with a special visit from the Easter Bunny bringing smiles, laughter, and a few sweet surprises along the way. For some of our residents, the Bunny arrived a little earlier than expected a gentle reminder that joy doesn’t need to wait for a particular day. These moments of connection, light-hearted fun, and shared celebration have been truly special, and we look forward to continuing the festivities over the Easter period.

For many of us, Easter is a celebration of hope, renewal, and the quiet strength found in faith. It reminds us that even in life’s most challenging moments, there is always the promise of new beginnings. In our community, we see this lived every day in the resilience of our residents, the compassion of our staff, and the connection we share with each of you as families.

It invites us to slow down, to be present, and to cherish the moments that matter — a conversation, a smile, a shared memory. It is also a time to honour the journeys of those we care for, and to hold close the values of dignity, kindness, and love.

To all of our families, thank you for the trust you place in us and for the role you play in the lives of your loved ones.

We wish you a peaceful and blessed Easter, filled with hope, reflection, and connection.

With warm regards,
Carmen
