Orange Clay Target Club, oops, sorry Central Zone, recently competed at the NSWCTA DTL State Championships. Not a great deal to report, with only the Veterans team successful in bringing home the chocolates.

OK, it could be right dodgy weather-wise tomorrow, Friday 2 October, but practice will still be on for the diehards at Orange Clay Target Club. With 2 of the 3 set-up musketeers chancing their hands at the state DTL championships (let’s hope they’ve remembered their wellies), it could also be right dodgy administratively, but come to the club from 2.30 pm-ish and find out.

Shooters from 5 Central Zone clubs, 2 Western Zone clubs and 1 Victorian club (Beaufort Clay Target Club) joined Orange Clay Target Club members for the annual Big Day Out challenge on Sunday, and which was contested in interesting weather, that had some travelers and a pair of grey nomads questioning their sartorial choices.
Four shooters shot the possible in the first event, a 50-target double-barrel championship. After a semi-protracted shoot-off, Clinton Hawke (Parkes) emerged the winner (113/113) from Mark Dutton (Narromine) and Peter Sullivan, who took the places in AA Grade. Adam Brown, the fourth musketeer in the shoot-off, settled for first place in A Grade. Jordon Little (60/61) took out second place after a shoot-off with Ben Delaney. B Grade was won by Sandy Sullivan from Amanda Delaney, while C Grade went to Laurie Arnold (Bathurst) from Alan Hawke.
Mark Dutton won the 50-target single-barrel event, with Clinton Hawke winning AA Grade from Peter Sullivan. A Grade went to Jordon Little from Glenn McAllister, and B Grade to Sandy Sullivan from Amanda Delaney. C Grade was won by Pasquale (Pat) Micari from OFC member Bob Alston.
Two possibles (150/150) were shot in the third event, the 50-target point score, with Mark Dutton besting Clinton Hawke after 2 extra targets. Second in AA Grade went to Darryl Weal after a shoot-off with Chris Delaney and Douglas Ferguson (Warren). A Grade went to Glenn McAllister from Jordon Little, while Sandy Sullivan again won B Grade from Amanda Delaney, with the other B Graders seemingly no chance. C Grade was won by Pat Micari from Alan Hawke, who had a short and sharp taste of what shoot-offs are all about.
High Gun for the day was Mark Dutton (249/250) with an impressive score given the conditions.

Word on the street is that practice is on again at Orange Clay Target Club tomorrow, Friday 25 September, and you know that the word on the street is always right. If you need practice for the Big Day Out on Sunday, then this is your only chance - unless of course, you come out to help on Saturday at a corporate day for the club (10.00 am start). Maybe do both and get and get the skills razor sharp. Usual start times - 3.00 pm or later for the workers, somewhere between 2.00 pm and 2.30 pm for the superannuated pensioners, the retirees, the grey nomads and general ne'er-do-wells.

A sunny Thursday equals a sunny Friday (don't mention the frosts though). A sunny Friday equals sunny practice at Orange Clay Target Club on 18 September. Yes, it's on again, starting at 3.00 pm or earlier for those who need to get home before bedtime (i.e. 5.00 pm). Just be aware that the regular practice guy is heading to Brewarrina (apparently it's even more sunnier in Bre) so the second-stringers will be setting up and you know that they do like a hand.

A bit late this week but there you go - probably should’ve stopped listening to Dr Hook and The Medicine Show and rewatching Shameless (original English version) on Netflix a bit earlier - not at the same time mind you.
Where were we? Ah yep, practice is on again this Friday, 11 September. Starts at 3.00 pm, finishes when you do. It’s staying light a bit longer now (as you would be aware the Spring Equinox is just around the corner) so there’s more opportunity to get those much needed practice rounds in.
