Transition Town Vincent

Transition Town Vincent TTV works to strengthen local community connections and empower people to tread lightly on the earth.

Transition Town Vincent (TTV) is a not-for-profit community group aligned with the worldwide Transition Town movement, which assists communities transition into a more sustainable and resilient way of life. TTV started as Transition Town Mount Hawthorn in February 2014. TTV works to keep our community strong and sustainable by supporting local food production, protecting the environment and conne

cting people to achieve these goals. In the face of the climate crisis and peak oil, there are huge economic and social benefits in working smarter on food, energy, waste and recycling, housing, education, transport, flora and fauna. TTV holds events to raise awareness of these issues, provide information on how people can reap the benefits of sustainable living and connect people who can help each other in various ways. Some examples of our activities include: hands-on composting workshops; cycling safety workshops; info sessions on native plants, recycling, and growing food; Boomerang Bag sewing sessions; and regular movie nights to raise awareness of environmental and social issues. Social Media Policy for Facebook

TTV Social Media Policy has been developed to ensure the content under the TTV banners on the Website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and any future platforms is consistent with TTV values, aims and objectives. As a small non-profit organisation, the aim of this policy is to create a safe space for all. Only administrators can post but comments are open to the public. All posts are in the public domain, and care must be taken to ensure that the posts are accurate, don’t damage TTV’s reputation and consistent with TTV values. Administrators can remove any comments that are personal attacks, abuse, trolling, racist, sexist, disrespectful toward others, swearing, or containing illicit or illegal activities. Volunteer Administrators will warn or block contributors of offensive posts comments. TTV will only promote businesses that directly align with TTV values. Any unsolicited posts selling goods and services will be removed. Businesses that wish to be promoted should present their case to one or more of the Steering Committee, which is subsequently discussed on the TTV Steering Team page or a Steering Team Meeting.

What a fantastic morning Transition Town Vincent had at the City of Vincent Native Plant Sale today. Our very first visitor had gotten some biochar from us last year and was very excited saying it was a ‘game changer’ for her and her garden. It’s great to know that what we are doing is bringing people joy while benefiting our environment. We got to chat with a lot of people and had visits from Mayor Alison Xamon and Cr Suzanne Worner whose support and positive reinforcement, along with that of other councillors and staff, helps spur us on. We had about eight volunteers on hand to talk to visitors about a range of things from Black Cockatoo Forest projects at Britannia Reserve and Stuart Street Reserve to how soil carbon helps soil function. Speaking of which, a big shout out to the volunteers behind the scenes doing things ranging from the black cockatoo cutouts and graphics explaining the soil food web. We look forward to being back next year but for now, we have a busy bee to prepare for tomorrow at the community food forest 😅.

It's Volunteer Week and this year's theme is Your Year to Volunteer!
By volunteering with TTV you can help improve both your health and sustainability and that of your local community. Last year's Landcare survey found that the majority of volunteers with environmental groups had a more positive connection to nature where they live, improved overall physical and mental wellbeing and developed new social connections. See https://landcareaustralia.org.au/media-release/new-landcare-survey-findings/ So email us at [email protected] to indicate your interest in volunteering or connect with us at one of our upcoming events such as the City of Vincent Native Plant Sales on 23rd May (registration required) or the TTV Britannia Community Food Forest Busy Bee this Sunday morning 24th May.

We had a great turnout at the TTV busy bee at the Britannia community food and black cockatoo forest this morning. Everyone got something out of this morning be it a bit of exercise, meeting new people, learning about compost or some cockatoo cutouts to colour in. And of course we finished off with some tea and coffee and food. Thank you for everyone who came along and helped out. Our next busy bee is on Sunday 24th May. Enquiries to [email protected]
